Hi guys,


I went into the store today to find out about stocks for my ak and the guy said the traditional ak stock was a lot smaller then average looks almost weird. Is this true? It wasnt a wood one but he said was based on the real dimensions of the traditional stock. It was small and brought the rifle in really close to me. Is he talking crap or is this the way to go becuase I'm not a very big guy.

The standard AK stock is a little short compared to many other rifles. Still it's manageable for most people of average height.

There are Warsaw length and NATO length stocks. The Warsaw being the standard more common model, the NATO stocks are the longer version, usually more comfortable for western shooters.

Yes, a standard issued AK stock is fairly short. The Russians designed them short to make them better for use with bulky winter clothing. It also works well with body armor. Also a short stock is easier to "square-off" behind for controlling rapid fire.

mu friend has a warsaw, most uncomfortable, short stock.

How the original AK stock feels to you will depend on your size as much as that of the stock. If you are over 6' tall, you will probably hate it. I'm 6'4" and I cannot stand the shorter AK stocks as they are terribly uncomfortable -- they put my elbow and wrist at a severely cramped angle.

I have a Warsaw length stock on my Saiga. It's not uncomfortable for me to shoot and I'm 6' tall. It did feel a bit weird at first but got used to it fairly quickly, now I wouldn't even want a longer stock.
