    I know in Ohio I must be 21 to buy a handgun but can I buy a black powder revolver? Since under federal law they aren't considered firearms at all.

    State or federal law? Because as far as I know you must be 18 by federal law.

    Check your state laws. Many states treat BP handguns the same as modern handguns concerning purchase and ownership. :)

    Found it here. http://codes.ohio.gov/orc/2923.11

    (L) "Dangerous ordnance" does not include any of the following:

    (1) Any firearm, including a military weapon and the ammunition for that weapon, and regardless of its actual age, that employs a percussion cap or other obsolete ignition system, or that is designed and safe for use only with black powder;

    So I guess I can buy one.

    The real question is can you buy powder and caps?
    In Ma there is no license requirement for buying black powder arms. Good luck getting powder, caps or balls without at least an FID though.

    In Ohio you don't need a license to buy caps, powder or ball.

    Black powder in Ohio...

    I recommend you contact either Cabela's or Dixie Gun Works and order from them. Their prices are good on firearms and related accesories (incl. complete starter kits), excellent customer service and very knowledgable about the laws both federal & local concerning their products.... Have done business with both for my black powder needs for decades now.
