Would trading my Heckler & Koch hk45c pistol for a mid-level milspec AR in like new condition be fair even trade or do you think it would be a bad trade?

I'm not up on what that H&K goes for but if you want an AR, that's a good one and probably worth $800+ with the Magpul goodies. Likely a good trade if you have another good handgun.

Bottom line: The HK new will run around $1000. That PSA can be had for closer to $800. And if there are extra mags included, the HK mags probably cost 3X what the AR's do.

So technically, the HK is worth $200 or so more. But I think you're doing fine if you come home with whichever you'll enjoy more. Nobody's going to lose their @ss here, though I might request a little ammo to compensate the value difference.

I have other good handguns. The AR will include 3 magazines. So the Palmetto is decent rifle?

I have a Palmetto State Armory AR. It is all parts from PSA that I assembled with Magpul hardware. They make very cost effective quality AR's.
HK's used fetch $1k in my area so the HK is probably worth more than the PSA. Have the trader throw in a 10 pack of Pmags and call it good!

    It's a plain, no-frills rifle.

But they're built with rock solid milspec parts in my experience. Every build I've ever done has had at least some PSA parts in it (I always use their Magpul LBKs). I also have one PSA barreled upper and two guns built on their lowers. Zero complaints. They make good stuff.

I think its a good trade for you (assuming your not in LOVE with your pistol). Im sure you know that AR accesories can be expensive and sometimes hard to install. Also, if federal law is redone, it would be great to be in that grandfather'd in catagory. Not to mention the investment that could potentially be.

If you have other handguns but no AR, I'd say go for it.
You may be losing a little money wise, but a rifle > handgun imo.

It depends on when the rifle was assembled/purchased.
