Down my daughters stables on Friday afternoon. Got bit on the finger by what I think is a horse fly. Have had many bites in the past by them, however this one has taken a turn for the worst. Any ideas for treatment have cut into it thinking it would drain but it has not happened. Finger is twice its normal size. Any home remedies you may have would be appreciated

Soaking in Epson salts can provide some relief and prevent infection. Shoot horseflies with .22 shotshells.

I find Horseflys to cause my hands to blow up like baseball mitts. But, it's more of an allergic reaction with me. Sounds like something different. Spider, Bee Sting?

Is the finger infected, or just a reaction to the bite or sting. If it is infected it may be time for the walk-in center. Otherwise, ice and and Benadryl. I like the benadryl spray.

Where I live we have things that sting the hell out of you. (Yellow Jackets come to mind) Then there are always spider bites that can get nasty.

Civil War Medicine: Cut it off and cauterize it.
    Modern Medicine: See a doctor.
Alternative Medicine: Place a Pyramid on it and surround it with crystals.
Home Remedies: Go to the Feed Store and get some antibiotic and drink it like a chicken, clean up the wound and keep it clean with neosporin.

Unless money is a BIG issue, go with Modern Medicine

edited to givie a +1 to the Benadryl.

Look. I'm a bit of a tough guy. But if a bug bite is bad enough to ask advice of a forum, and it looks like that in the picture, carry that crap to the freaking doctor. Stop messing around here. GO.

Take it home and soak it in cider (side her)!

Looks like a S. FL scorpion sting.

    I dislike all creepy-crawlers!

Davy, take care where you stick that booger hook! [IMG]

Benadryl or any antihistamine would be a good step. Might try some antibiotic cream like neosporin or triple antibiotic ointment. Beyond that talk at a dr about it before it turns beet red on you and they have to take a knife to it.

To soak that in apple cider vinegar would hurt like a son of a gun. I would not do that.

To me, it looks infected and I would be going to the doctor with that. I think it's beyond home remedies.

I put hydrogen peroxide on cuts all the time. It really doesn't hurt. But alcohol or vinegar............

I'm all about home remedies, but looks like you waited to long and did the wrong things. Go to the doctor before it time to cut it off.
