Never trust what your recruiter says, only Trust what he puts in writing! Think of a used car salesman in a uniform :)

Ya that's what my grandpa said too. Hes a vet from the navy. Is there anything specific I should ask the recruiter? I plan on talking to a recruiter from all the branches because they all visit my high school.

I wouldn't settle on infantry. I would look into something that could help your future. Look for a job in the army or marines that you would be interested in doing in your civilian life after the service. The army has some good technical MOS.

I would like to be in the infantry because that's where I feel that I would do the most good. But I see where u are coming from and I plan on taking advantage of the go bill when I get out

Ok if that's what you really want theres nothing wrong with it. I think army allows you to do any school you want while you are in. I believe to be a ranger you have to go through jump school first. You should ask your recruiter if that's stuff can be guaranteed into your contract. And get details like that. Play hard to get that's how you get a bonus.

Marines offer combat jobs that benefit you OUT of the Corps. I.e. 0360-combat constructional medalist(my main MOS) or combat engineers. ALWAYS GET YOUR MOS IN WRITEN BEFORE YOU SHIP OUT!!!!! Get in top physical shape now and don't ever stop workin out.

I've been in Infantry, Transportation, medical, artillery, engineers and CBRN.

Infantry is the most macho and fun job for a young man.

I think its a great starter MOS.

later you can always transfer but the infantry is where the heart of the Army is.
For some folks it might get boring after a couple years but you will pick up some great survival skills.

Engineers is also very huah, basically infantry with explosives.

CBRN is usually quite boring while your in (unless your get tech Escort!) BUT the CBRN school these days graduates you as a certified MAZMAT Tech, which is very cool for afterwards.

Artillery does the most killing in a real peer on peer engagement, but we havent done that in a while and as a result artillery has atrophied a bit.
If I where to do it again I would probaly go Infantry because then I am on track for going to all the cool patch-producing schools, or Combat Engineers which is a little more varied.

Armor also seems like it would be tons of fun but I have not been in it.
or if you are sharp become a Medic and if you compete successfully they will then send you to PA school (physicsians assistant) after a couple of years as a successful medic.
PA , means real money on the outside and it will even get u commissioned as well.
As for future jobs Signals and Transportation are generally good as well.

    So many choices :)

What would be the best mos to start in to work you're way into sniper school?or into the rangers? Id like to either retire in the military or come home and try to get into a SWAT team or something

if you join the army do not expect anything you see in the movies, and remember the army is changing going towards a more friendly softer army, i joined in 08 and have two years left, ask your recruiter about an 18 xray contract, it only has a 30% grad rate but if u fail out u will be infantry! if u have any questions or need help message me

Snipers are a mindset most people don't have. Beat way is to get SS from the get go.....which wont happen unless you are 0311 and shoot PERFECTly. Couldn't really tell you how to get into rangers except start at airborne and be a damn good soldier

I served in the marine corps infantry as an 0351 assault man; it was a great experience I got out in 2010 and have been going to school full time since getting out. I will tell you that I'm thankful for the gibill, but it isn't all it's talked up to be. If I were you I would join the army, they have more options for special operations work and the funding is much better than in the corps. If you only want to be infantry go marines but if your looking sf go army. The only down side to the army vs the marine corps is the uniforms IMO the corps has the best uniforms across the board.

Its been said before but deserves repeating, get everything in your contract before signing. Don't let them push you through without verifying everything is there. It cost me a pay grade out of boot which slowed my advancement by at least a full year if not more. Ask lots of questions and keep researching your options. You might even consider waiting a year or two out of school before going in, but that's just my opinion. Either way good luck to you which ever way you go.

A lot of it depends on what you think you may want to do when you get out. My step son just left today for Bahrain. He is a MA (master at arms) in the Navy. He chose that because at this stage of his life he thinks he wants to get in to law enforcement later. He also considered EOD ( explosive ordnance disposal) and he may see about doing eod when it comes time to re up.
