I'm looking for a 17 and don't know what I want but I know it has to be a bolt action
Get a Marlin 917 with the heavy barrel. I got mine for 199.00 from Wally world and its a one jagged hole shooter
I bought a rossi single shot 17HMR a few years back for less than $100. The iron sights arent the best and I need to scope it but it shoots good and has a real good ejector which helps on the reload. I would shoot it more if I had a scope on it but I dont. Its been about a year and a half since Ive even pulled it out of the safe.
i'm looking for one too, i've heard the marlin mentioned above and the savage 93 series is the best bang for the buck. the savage can be found for $200-$240 give or take. i'm gonna try and find one on sale eventually.
My savage .17 HMR is a great shooter out to about 125yds with a 3x9x32 scope.
It will put 5 rds in side a bottle cap at 100yds.
Don't use it to shoot squirrels any closer that about 25yds because you won't have any meat to take home.
The Marlin 917V is a good rifle. $200.00 for a HB is very good. I have a Bushnell Trophy 4-16x42mmAO on mine. Great for small targets at distance.
as promised a picture of my savage 17 wearing a bsa sweet 17 scope in 3x12x40 scope
I got a savage 93R for $300 it has a thumbhole stock which I love and the accutrigger is great
i have an older Savage M93r17 that is a pre-Accutrigger model. 21" heavy barrel, restocked with a Boyd's laminated stock, trigger sear from Rifle Basix and topped with a BSA Sweet 17 6-18x40 scope. on a non-windy day, it's very scary accurate.
My nephew also has the Savage - excellent weapon with stellar out of the box accuracy. Highly recommended.
I have a Savage 93R-17 FVSS. It's a great little rifle. By far the most accurate rimfire rifle I have ever shot.
The glass I am using is a Bushnell Legend 4.5-14x44mm.
