Hey, everyone.
New to the forum and looking for a parts source for a vintage A2 rifle I am restoring for a friend. This A2 lower is from Palmetto Armory that went out of business years ago, not the Palmetto State Armory we are more familiar with.

I'm looking for the lower butt stock screw that fastens the butt plate and also holds the sling loop in place. The sling loop tab is threaded. The screw is probably vented, like the shorter butt plate screw up top. The screw has a panhead, not a countersunk head, and looks like it should be about 1 3/4" long, or perhaps a skosh longer.

I ordered one from Windham Weaponry, but it is too short. After examining their screw and searching online, most other screws look the same length, too. Maybe for a newer generation of A2?
Any sources you know of would be greatly appreciated.

  • You might try Apex Gun Parts! I am thinking maybe the stock you have might take an older M-16 Rifle Sling Screw? But this place would be a good contact for you. The also have a website online. They have a large inventory of M-16 AR-15 and other parts.

  • But if you know how long the screw needs to be that would be great. As you know, it just has to be long enough to thread completely into the Sling Swivel threads. So, it could be worth a phone call to them.

Winner, winner. Chicken dinner. Looks like my search should have been for M16A1, not for A2 rifle. That makes a difference on the length of the screw, too. The A1 screw is described as 2" long. The A2 screw is 1" to end of threads, 1 1/8" to the pointed end. I'll post an update when the part comes in to confirm its fit for other followers searching this thread.
Thanks.

Update: part arrived today from Impact Guns and fits perfectly. Here's the link and their part description:
DPMS AR-15 Buttstock Screw Lower A1
Or type in manually:
DPMS AR-15 Buttstock Screw Lower A1

An A1 lower buttstock screw is 2" long. It is threaded toward the end to fit into the threaded tab of the sling loop. I added a drop of blue Loctite when installing. This lower screw is not vented. The shorter top screw is vented (see photo, below).

An A2 lower buttstock screw is described as 1-1/2" long, and is actually 1-5/16" long. It also is not vented. The screw heads of both are identical flat heads with slotted/standard drives.

I hope this helps anyone searching for this part. Thanks, also, for the warm welcome to the forum.
