We had SROs(Sheriffs Deputies) at my HS in Florida. First one was a d-bag, all he did was arrest kids for fighting. He always arrested both kids no matter who started it or who did what. Great idea, let's give a bunch of teenagers arrest records for simple school yard fights. The second one was a woman who had common sense and would actually get to the bottom of each situation instead of hauling everyone to jail.

We had 3 on-site security officers when I was in High School in the late 80's. During mys last 2 years, we had 2 undercover officers enrolled in school due the the rampant drug activity through the school

Both of my children's schools have SRO's (Elementary & Middle) and have had them for as long as my children have been attending, at least 5 years. I have no idea what they did during the day before Newtown, but after I've sure noticed a change. I went to check the elementary school child out early last week and now the SRO has to go to the classroom and escort every and all children to the office.

As a side note, (I only comment about this because me and the wife laugh about this sometimes) I also have a SRO that lives in my neighborhood who runs everyday rain/snow/tornado it don't matter!!!! I saw him once like 15 miles from the house, we chuckle because we think of the poor school kid who tries to run from that guy, you can run and even run fast, but that guys gonna catch ya for sure...:)

My high school apparently started patrolling the halls w police and dogs a couple years after I graduated (82). They were looking for drugs primarily. I say pull cops off of traffic duty during school hours and let them keep our kids safe. I am not interested in introducing arms to the teachers union!

My small school of 100 never had officers or guards. What we had was hunting rifles in every truck and shot guns in the gym ( shooting trap). And im still alive. That was only 3 years ago and om positive they are still shoot trap. Gotta love WYO!

21 jump street? lol
not quite ;) ... the 2 officers were well known by the student body. they would be rotated in and out about every 3-4 months. for all their efforts LE never made a dent in the amount of drugs that passed through our school
