I have a Riley ak74 and recently installed a wooden handguard on it, yet it doesn't have lamination on it. Is it a bad idea to shoot it? Would it catch fire? Just want play things safe since aks heat up faster than ar-15s.

Laminated wood is just a polite word for ply-wood . Thin sheets glued together to form a usable thickness .
On rifles real wood has worked for a long time . Plywood is a cheap ugly way to make usable wood when you can't get real mother nature grown wood . It will not burn to a crisp under the horrific heat generated by a ak74...
Go Ahead , CHOOT" IT !

I for decades have had both SKS and AK47's with wood hand guards. Never any problem even when I ran too hot at times. The 7.62x39 rounds can get hot fast also. I see no problem here.
