Well, Christmas has come and gone for me this year, and I have a report to make. It goes like this: usually on Christmas Santa never brings me anything firearm related as a present. However, this year Santa has come through on doing just that. What did Santa bring me you may ask? Why, Santa brought me my very own Ruger 10/22! Yes, Santa brought me the Kool-Aid drinking rifle of the .22LR world! However, there are a few problems with the gift, and as such has kind of refrained me from wanting to keep it. Here is the skinny on what I didn’t like about the new gift:

1.) The rifle was a distributor special, and came with a custom Hogue stock. I am not a big fan of Hogue simply because I have medium sized hands with short thumbs, and therefore have difficulity in having a comfortable grip on the rifle. I will admit though that I do like the rubberized feel and grip, and would easily get a backup stock in black if I could find one that could fit in my hands.

2.) The stock’s color is OD green. I HATE OD GREEN. No let me rephrase that: I HATE any color that is OD green, coyote brown, dark earth, etc. Give me a good old wood stock or black synthetic as far as coloring is concerned any day of the week.

3.) The barrel is a 16’’ barrel instead of an 18’’ barrel. Of course in all honesty, that is not as big of an issue compared to the previous two complaints.

Despite the negatives I am still glad that Santa brought me a 10/22. Not only is it my first .22LR rifle, but my first rifle period (laugh at me all you want). Of course, with the issues that I have with the rifle it would seem that my Christmas didn’t turn out well right? Well, fear not because not all hope is lost. You see, Santa was able to get me the rifle from a dealer who is willing to take the rifle back, and will allow me to order the one I want. Therefore, tomorrow I plan on doing just that. I plan on keeping you guys up to date on the new rifle, any changes I make to it, and of course a good old range report. So, technically while I am not a full-fledged member of the Ruger 10/22 Kool-Aid Club yet, I will be soon enough. Until then, here is a picture of the rifle that I plan on taking back. Enjoy it boys and girls, and please refrain from mocking me for taking it back.

    Thanks. :)

I hate to break it to you guys, but already took the rifle back today like I said I would. Luckily, the dealer was true to his word and allowed me to do an exchange. Unfortunately, the rifle I picked out for the exchange was not in stock, and so I had to have it ordered in. It won't arrive until next Wednesday though because the distributor won't be shipping anything out this week due to the holidays. Still, I will have it soon enough. I plan on revealing what I picked out and post some pictures as soon as I get it. Until then. . .

    It's Here!

Well guys, on Tuesday, after nearly three weeks of waiting I was finally able to get the Ruger 10/22 that I wanted originally for Christmas. Without further ado, here it is!

As you all can see, I ended up getting the Ruger 10/22 Deluxe Sporter Edition. I have to say that not only do I absolutely love the American Walnut stock, but the rifle itself overall fits me better than the carbine model. I also love the fact that it has sling mounts already built into the stock. The action is nice and the weight is balanced well too. As of right now, I just absolutely love this rifle. The weather is still a bit nasty here; therefore it may be a couple of weeks more before I can post a range report. However, do not worry because I will post it on here as soon as I can get to it. I have about 200 rounds of Blazer and 300 rounds of CCI Mini Mags that are just waiting to be used. :D

I do have a couple of questions to ask all of you experienced Ruger 10/22 owners out there. First of all, I plan on getting a scope for the rifle, and after doing quite a bit of research I think I might go with the Mueller APV 4x16x40mm to perform both plinking and target practice duties. However, if any of you guys have any better suggestions, then I am all ears. I have also heard that the scope base mount that comes with the Ruger 10/22 is crap and that it is advisable to buy something else that is built better. Does anybody have any suggestions on a good multi notched Weaver and/or picatinny base mount that is built well, but will not obscure the basic iron sights of the rifle so they can still be used?

Another issue I have is rifle slings, anybody have any good advice on those? How about rifle cleaning kits? I will admit right now that I am not a big fan of the Outers brand of cleaning kits, but I do not know what else would be a better brand to go with. Last but not least is a good rifle case. I am thinking about maybe buying one of those Allen Ruger 10/22 soft cases for the range, but I need something that is built well enough as a hard case for storage at home. I have heard that the Browning plastic hard cases are nice, but I was wondering what any of you might suggest would be a good brand to look into that is not going to break the bank.

Anyway, all suggestions are welcomed, and I am glad that I am finally member of the Ruger 10/22 Kool-Aid Drinking Fan Club now! :)

That´s a beautiful rifle, congratulations! Have you looked at bore snake type cleaning kits? It´s really easy and fast to clean the barrel with them. I bought the Knock Out bore snake for my CZ .22.
