I have a problem that I can't seem to resolve. This is a great gun except that after about 25 rounds in a range visit the slide won't lock back on the last round. In addition when the sled fails to lock back if I hit the mag release the mag has to be pulled out. The gun should be broken in with over 1,000 rounds through it. It is cleaned after every range visit. Other than this it's a great firearm. It's such a great gun that I'd rather not have to send it back to Springfied if there is a simpler fix. Any suggestion would be appreciated

The 1911 is a superb platform, but it was designed as a service gun. When the tolerances are tightened up, they can become problematic.

    What ammo are you using?

Does it happen with every magazine you have? The only slide "not locking back" problems I have had were attributable to specific magazines.

My Triple K mags rarely lock back, but they are range use only mags.

Not every mag. Only after about 25-30 rounds foes it happen. Springfield sent me two new mags, free, but they didn't solve the problem.

I don't know without it happening in my hand- slide stop spring/plunger? Maybe the slide stop itself? Normaly things like that happen every time, not once in awhile
BTW- love my RO 45

On one 9mm 1911 I had a slide stop that was out of spec (where it contacts the mag follower). It did the same thing as yours, but didn't start showing up until it had about 200 rounds thru it. I swapped out a slide stop from another 9mm 1911 and cycled perfectly. So I got a new one and it has performed 100% since then. (Neither pistol is a Springfield RO)
