Trying to get my COL set. Right now I'm at 1.125 with a 124 gr FMJ RN. I've looked in both my manuals and the measurements differ a lot. One says max OAL 1.162... The other lists 1.142 as a min OAL. But there tested data says 1.135.... Slightly confused.

1.169 is MAX if you're at 1.125 you should be fine

Based on my materials your around is 1.15... You don't want to go below min or out could build pressures.. I like to use this site and cross check with my manuals..

The difference that you are getting in OAL (Overall Length) is due to the different ogive in different Mfg. bullets.

In general you want to use the Max OAL that will fit YOUR chamber and magazine. Field strip your pistol, and do the "Drop Test" into your chamber. With the proper length and crimp, your loads should have the same "Klunk" sound as a Factory Load. The longer the better, as long as they will also fit your magazine, without binding. Yes-fill the mag. to be sure..Bill.

mm good idea. i did measure a factory load but i dont recall what distance i got. it wasa round 1.14 i think. well i will try to play around later tonight again

As stated, different bullets from different manufacturers have different profiles. Different OAL for different bullets is to be expected. Just because one set of data uses one OAL and other data uses a different OAL means nothing. What specific powder and charge weight is specified. All this proves is you must work up a safe load using your specific components and YOUR gun.

okay, one more question.. anyone know a good powder for the 124gr bullets? for 115 i was gonna use 231 but when i looked up the 124 it only listed WSF.. is there any other data i can look at or powders that you know would still work??

You will find NO problems using 125gr. specs on your 124gr. bullets. That opens the selection to you.

That weight of 9MM bullet is completely interchangeable. If you want some fun--weigh a dozen or so of your bullets??HA HA...Bill.

I thank you Stalker..I don't know if it's just me, or what. When I read data specs on similuar bullets-52gr./53gr.-88gr./90gr.-124gr./125gr.-158gr./160gr.==I usually compare specs over several different load books, or data lists, and start around Mid range+work up my loads.

Not to slam, or put someone down, but it just seems like common sense??

Yea, jj, you are right on..It is ALWAYS best to move slow+ask questions. Most things in this hobby are flexible, but there are some things that MUST be followed EXACTLY.

For ME, I usually start with the Mid range specs when working up a new load+go from there. We ARE always learning though.

I had been loading for a few years 9MM for use in my CZ pistols-CZ-75's and PO-1. Had a good Mid range load, at about 900-925fps that shot well and performed well in my CZ's.--Guess what?? They would NOT work worth a Snot on the new Glock 17 that I bought!!HA HA..A Glock NEEDS more Ump to operate the action..My CZ loads would "Stove Pipe" on most every shot with the 900fps loads!! Beefed them up to 1000-1050fps, and they run just fine in the Glocks now...Like I say...ALWAYS LEARNING...Bill.

i loaded up 14 rounds to test last night. gonna stop quick today and rattle em off. why 14? just grabbed a handful and that was the amount.

the manual called for 3.5 to 3.7 gr of clays for a 125gr fmj.

so i loaded my 124fmj with 3.5gr.
COL is 1.145.
they seemed to be okay for the drop in test.

i was a little shocked at the small margine listed so hopefully they work well. if it does i have a few hundred empties that will be filled very, very soon.

well, all 14 shot. also had 14 FTE's. not one shell left the chamber. no stove pipes, so i just got home, loaded 5 more of 3.6, and 5 of 3.7. hopefully one of these will get me a reliable load. now, if you happen to have a revolver like the blackhawk. the 3.5 loads shot really nice!
