I've hunted most of my life, but never got into reloading. Thinking about it now. I do have a question though...

What is a good semi-automatic rifle chambered in 7.62x51 that doesn't look like an assault rifle? I like how the Ruger Mini-14 looks and would like something like that. Any thoughts?

If you like the mini 14, maybe you should look at a M14 or M1A. The M14 is where they got the "mini" from for the mini 14.

Browning BAR or the Remington M750. both of these are more hunting rifles than looking tactical.

    both of those.

Also, the FNH FNAR. it is pretty much a BAR with a 20 round magazine.

The M1A looks every but as much an "assault" rifle as an AR-15.

Yeah, I think so too, but he specifically said he likes the styling of the mini 14....

Oh well. I'm going to look at that FNAR myself.

Toldja so! I really like the FNAR.

FNH has really hit a home run in combining a hunting rifle and a tactical rifle in one package.

So what does an assault rifle look like?

^^^ The assault rifles of their eras. As were any number of other weapons that don't cause liberals to wet their pants. Scary stuff.

Get the rifle best suited for your use and don't let liberal bed wetters scare you away from a useful tool.
    +1 on the Springfield M1A.

    Liberal Anti-Gun Term: "Assault Rifle"

If you are not considering the AR type rifle, I agree with the rest of our friends here on the FTF. You may want to take a serious look at the Springfield M1-A Style Rifles. They are great weapons and very reliable and as you mentioned chambered in 7.62X51. The FN-LAR Style Rifles are also a very good rifle. The company that I can think of in case you want to take a look at some is DSA out of Chicago IL. area. But as JD has referred there is just something "Fine" about the Springfield M-1 A. I did notice that someone here on the Forum had one for sale and another had a Polytech M-14 Style Rifle for sale. It obviously would be less expensive than the Springfield. However quality is not quite as good in my opinion! Let us see some Pictures when you get your new rifle and a range report. :)
Here is a picture of a Springfield M-1 A *Loaded Model.
