This may be a stupid question, but me being a shotgun guy I'm not real educated on handguns. Is there a difference between a .50 cal desert eagle cartridge and .50 cal smith and wesson cartridge?

The desert eagle is chambered in .50 AE, and the S&W is a .500 magnum

    .500 SW 275-500 grains 1400-2200 fps
    .50 AE 300-325 grains 1400-1600 fps

The .50 AE is more manageable.

Also the .500 S&W Magnum is Rimmed & the .50 AE is rimless, or as they say, Semi-rimmed, straight & Rebated rim, straight...........
