I am totally a noob in the world of revolvers, however, while pondering the deeper things in life this thought crossed my mind: What would stop me from shooting a .454 Casull through a Taurus judge, seeing as the Casull is merely a leangthened .45 Colt round?

What should stop you is the fact that it is not meant to shoot a 454 casull. It is ment for a 45lc of 410.

The SAAMI maximum average pressure for the 45 colt is pegged at 14,000 psi.

The SAAMI maximum average pressure for the 410 bore 3" is 13,500 psi.

The SAAMI maximum average pressure for the 454 casull is 65,000 psi.

Yes it is a pressure issue.

I am glad you asked the question before you went and tried it. That is a pressure increase of 4.5 times that of a 45 colt.

You can get the Raging Judge and be able to shoot all three.

45 colt max is 14,000 CUP. 454 is up over 52,000 CUP. Could cost you a couple of fingers and a gun if not a lost worse.

Actually that is a scary thought. Does anyone know if a Juidge will actually chamber a .454?

That was exactly my initial thought. Since the the .410 is much longer than a .454 casull and the are the same diameter, I don't see why not. I totally spaced the psi factor. I'm sure somebody has tried it and is now typing with 2 fingers.

I don't think I want to cut loose a full house .454 round from a gun that small.

I think the 454 would chamber in a Judge, especially the 3" model. I would hate to be anywhere near someone who tried it though. As far as the Raging Judge goes.....who wants to one hand it?

My Judge's frame cracked after less than a box of .45LC mild cowboy action loads. I wouldn't go anywhere near a Taurus wheelgun with a full house .454 round.

Actually, some of the earlier reloads for the .454 (the triplex powder load stuff) were determined a few years ago by Freedom Arms and Ruger to be in the ballpark of 100,000 psi. Modern store bought .454 loads are much weaker, maybe 35,000 - 50,000.
