Will shooting 45+P in my new kimber damage the gun or is the kimber built for that?

It absolutely will not damage it. It is a good quality firearm, only thing that may happen if you shoot a LOT of them (doubtful that one would do such a thing) it will wear the recoil spring out earlier. Maybe. Just an aside (and completely an opinion so take it or dismiss it for what its worth) based off years of 1911 (especially Kimber) shooting, CCW, and some research I dont use +Ps in a 45. They really arent needed and make the second shot much more challenging than with standard loads. Plenty of power as she is. Again, take it for what its worth. Good luck, hope this helps.

I mostly agree with Hillbilly - Kimber and H & K both rate their production pistols as +P compatible right from the factory. They DO NOT require you to upgrade the recoil spring, although it is recommended.

I do carry +P as a defense round, have trained with it, and have always carried it since I started carrying with a .45 I love the power behind the round and the damage it can induce. Now, all my 1911's are steel frame and steel slide, so take that into account. 8 rounds plus 1 of that in a mag goes a long way towards me feeling very comfortable.

The stock .45 round is great, and there is nothing wrong with it, but there is also nothing wrong with having a little bit more umph behind it when fired from a weapon that is design for it.

I would say if your new Kimber has an Aluminum frame, best to only use +P occaisionally if at all!

Kimber can handle any factory loads, including +P and +P+ although you may not be able to handle them.
