hey guys, i loaded up my very first batch of ammo. i used new remington brass, federal primers, Hornady XTP 250 grain bullets and AA #5 powder. i resized the brass to make sure theyre the right size and flared the case mouth. when i loaded the bullet in it expandes the case very little and dont know if thats normal, it didnt say in the reloading manual. i dont have my calipers with me but it still chambers good in the revolver and cant tell any difference from factory ammo as far as wiggle room. it is right above the screwdriver.

When I load those exact bullets, I can feel a slight bump, but nothing significant. Once I expanded the case mouths to much, and that caused a large numb. As long as they go into your cylinder I would say they are fine.

ok thank you. when i expand the case mouth it feels like its catching on something when i try and take it out. when i rub my finger on the loaded case its only a slight rise but just want to make sure its safe.

Is the bulge uniform around the circumference? If so, perfectly normal. Your sizer is sizing the brass smaller than required. As long as it chambers fine, you are GTG.

If it is only on one side, the bullet is canted when being seated. A bit more flare can allow the bullet to make a better transition.

it is all the way around. makes me feel alot better knowing its normal. the bullet seated fine also

Expand the case as little as possible to accept the base of the bullet. I use 255gr FHRN from:

I buy a thousand at a time and get the same slight bulge. No problem at all.
I use the XTP for defensive loads.

my 38spl and 357mags do the same thing, it's not an issue.

the lyman reloading manual doesnt have data on the 200 or 250 grain fnrp. where did you get data for those?

You should always check the mouth of each chamber in your cylinder. Drop a bullet in the chamber it should fall thru the chamber and exit the mouth. This can also assure that the bullet is not too over sized to shoot in your handgun. In most cases once the new brass is fire formed and reloaded the bulge will disappear.
