HI guys i am a firearm examiner and i am doing some research on a .45 colt 1911 u s army semi-automatic that does not have a manufacturer serial number. Instead it has XV10010 exactly where the serial number usually be. Could anybody give me any information on why there is no manufacture serial number or where to look for the number. What XV10010 means?

First, is the pistol a 1911 or a 1911A1? If the manufacturer was Colt, then an inquiry to Colt would be in order. In some cases a serial number may have been removed during refinishing, and another SN assigned by the BATFE, and stamped in its place.
