I shot two rounds from this buffalo gun. The thing literally hurt my wrist (its a single shot hand gun with a scope on top).

Anyone else shoot something like this?

    It's a beast!!

Magnum Research? chambers a single action revolver (BFR) in 45-70 as well as 30-30 and some other rifle cartridges. I want!

The .45-70 handguns have been around for over 50 years. There was a 45-70 revolver produced back in the 1960s. I think it was made by Century Arms? The modern .500 S&W is more like the powerful 50-70 Springfield. These handguns have produced a surgical boom. More shooters are having fractured hands, wrist and elbows. There is a limit to what the human hand and arm can stand.

I'm not sure I would want to put about more than a cylinder through it. Hell, I might give up after one shot. I'd like to at least try it once tho.

Anything over 30.06 gets passed over by me.

There's effective firearms, then there's stuff

for which you either need a motivation, or

    proper usage.

I have neither the motivation, nor the practical

need for anything that large. The 45-70 is a

very effective rifle caliber for the distance shots.

Wouldn't want to hazard a 45-70 pistol, tho.

    The first Ruger No.1 that I ever shot was a friend's 416Rigby
I fired it from a standing position I would not shoot that rifle from a bench.

Would be fun to shoot. Once, maybe twice. :D I bet the recoil is a beast, in a rifle it kicks pretty good. I have shot a .454 Casull, that was interesting.

I can confirm the recoil is a BEAST!! I was only brave/stupid enough for two shots. After that, I stuck to shooting my friends other arsenal (Wilson Combat 1911-45, HK-9mm, Sig 226 - 40, and my trusty 226-9mm).

I never got around to asking my friend why, but I guess the reason for having that 45-70 is just to shoot it as a fun-gun. Just so you can say, "yep check that box." I will ask him to see if he has other purposes for it.

I will almost try anything, when it comes to shootin, .454 casull in a handgun is about all I want, but 45-70? I dunno.

This is my 45-70, and it will shake your teeth loose.:D

Man some of you boys need to man up a little. 45-70 in a pistol that is not too bad. I let you shoot my 500 with some of my special HOT loads.

I would be ascairt to shoot a 45-70 Remlin. I got one of the Marlin ones myself. Did not really know what I was buying. :D There was a one day delay with my FFL due to high volume, when I bought some bullets for it, I was like, WTF? I was thinking just a little bigger than 30-06...

But, if large carnivores come to Louisiana, I am set.
