Should you get your legal answer in a forum? I'm assuming you ask because you'd like to own one? If so, perhaps calling a MA gun store would help. Actually, I bet gun stores are illegal in MA! Oh I hope that's not true.

By the way, how about you go on over to the introductions thread and tell us a little about yourself. That's a good place to start.

I am in no way saying that i fully know the mass. gun laws but after skimming over them i see no reason why it wouldnt be allowed. its not considered an "assault weapon" or a high capacity

I see no reason it would not be legal, but then we are talking about Massachusetts. Check with local law enforcement, gun dealers, gun clubs, etc.

The following web site can be helpful in answering most questions of this nature; Handgunlaw.us

The FTF flunked it’s Bar exam.
Only a fool would seek legal advice from a public forum and has a fool for his counselor.
The only thing more stupid than sourcing legal advice from a public forum is providing said advice!

One: There are several ways to find out, and none of them involve asking an interwebz forum.

Two: I would not own one because of several problems with the Taurus Judge.

Three: I believe I am legally bound to not answer that kind of question...well, not legally, but spiritually. Well, not spiritually, but...aw heck, I dunno anymore. If your local shop sells them, you want one, you pass the background check then knock yourself out.

Four: Don't forget the range report in the range report section. :)

i have a friend who is a police officer who happens to own one of these things. even he played hell in getting his due to the fact that because the federal government classifies it as a short barreled shotgun, it has to be sold as one. i.e. check state laws on the sale of short barrel or "sawn off" shotguns.

Are you certain of this classification? That does not agree with what i've been told, especially since the barrel is rifled.

i think someone has mis understood the classification. in the state if georgia it is classified as a handgun. but then again a mossberg with no stock / pistol grip is also classified as a pistol due to the pistol grip.

I have learned that ma. has a test that insures a firearm will not discharge if droped.. taurus did not prove the firearm cannot discharge if dropped... therfore I cannot buy one in this state, many things do not make any sense in this state but that is the regulation , thanks for all the ans that I did get from this question .525erving

that is the problem he ran into here in alabama. like i said check your local laws to see how each state classifies it.

I thought SBR & SBS classification was done by the BATF only? IOW, a sound supressor is a sound supressor wherever it is, but some states allow them and some states don't. It is my understanding that the rifling in the barrel prevents this pistol from being classified as a "shotgun"/short barreled shotgun by the BATF, so i would think Alabama must have some othe issue with it. What am i missing here?

I always liked the look of the Bond Arms Derringers, but I've never shot one.

ok update on my post from earlier. after talking to larry about the taurus last night i found out that it was california that outlawed it due to classing it as a short barreled shotgun. also he has the judge magnum with the longer cylinder and is having problems finding a holster for it. does anyone know of one, preferrably nylon uncle mikes?
