I am going to Alaska next spring sometime for a bunch of cool stuff including hunting, fishing and rafting. I am thinking for a sidearm I would like a stainless Taurus tracker in 44 mag and a six inch barrel. Any input...?

[IMG]I have had mine ,for a few years, and it is a 4" brl, shoots flawless, and is very accurate at 35 yrds. It will take care of any varmints you might encounter, with the right ammo.
The 4" is a little easier to pack than the 6", I have even CCW this one in the winter.
My younest daughter says it is her favorite to shoot.
The Taurus gripper grips make it VERY easy to shoot, they really tamethe percieved recoil .

I like mine, shoot it often, and everybody that shoots it likes it.

Anna Purna is a newer regular on the forum. She lives in Alaska.

OK...I gotcha now. I haven't been on in a while on account of a broken phone and no computer.

And I'm going to Valdez...I know that doesn't matter when it comes to the Taurus, but I'm excited and I'm telling everyone.:p

If you are talking bout the .44 for bear defense (or some carefully concealed slaughter ;) ), I have seen many experienced people comment that you prolly won't have time to get it out and will have even more trouble putting rounds in Yogis brain when he runs up at 40mph. A pump 12 gauge full of slugs and in your hands, not slung, might be a safer and less expensive choice.

I thought that too, about the 12...I own a mossberg 500 with an 8 shot tube (7with three inch) and would be fine with that...but trying to think about the issues with taking 2 long guns on a plane and my cc firearm...I may ship if I can find a shop to receive them up there. Idk yet...

I think you can ship firearms to yourself. No transfer occurs, no dealer is involved.

i have a Taurus Tracker 44 with the ported 4" barrel, blued finish. great pistol, and pretty decently accurate.

the only change to mine was to put a Hogue MonoGrip on it. made a world of difference as i didn't care for the factory grips at all.

Gello's prolly right that the 12ga is the best choice but you will prolly be ok with the Taurus on a chest rig.

Also don't listen to Gello when it comes to bears. He's slightly batsh*t insane. (Nothing but love for ya, Gello :) )
