I plan on getting a glock 19 but I don't know if I want a 3rd or 4th gen. It will be my first glock. I have never liked the blocky look of the 3rd gen glocks but they are tride and true. I was never really into glocks (I'm a 1911 .45 guy) and always wanted an xdm until I picked up a few 4th gens at a gun show... Anyways I am torn between the two, I would love to hear some of your opinions. Which would you get and why?

I recently bought a G23 Gen 4 and I absolutely love it. its a .40 s&w. the FBI uses it as their sidearm. its got quite some stopping power and are extremely reliable. the only cons I could think of is that ammo is pricey, so maybe a 9mm could have been a good choice. but u can get a conversion barrel on the G23 to shoot 9mm bullets. I mean if u pay a bit more you get a newer model. so why wouldn't you, right?

o and don't worry about the recoil spring problem. glock has fixed the problem by now. I've had zero problems with my glock and I have shot about a thousands rounds thru it with about 6 differents types of ammo brands

I prefer the 3rd gen for carry, the grips on the 4th gen aren't exactly the smoothest and wouldn't feel great rubbing on your side. Like sandpaper, just my $.02.

Get the gen4. For a $50 price difference but you get 3 mags instead of 2. My gen4s have no probs or sortever.

?? Magazines only cost about $20. You could buy 2 magazines for $50 and have 4.

I bought a Gen 3 G35 and I love it!! My friend bought the Gen 4 G22 and he loves his!! It all depends on which one is the most comfortable for you to handle! You don't want a uncomfortable grip when shooting your gun.

Try to find a 2nd generation 19, straight frame without the finger groves then you can custom fit it to your hand and have a correct fit.

I have Gen 1, Gen3, and Gen 4 9mm Glocks and I would recommend the Gen4. I like all the improvements from the grip size (which you can add panels to make it the same size as Gen 3 or even larger) to the texture, larger Mag release, tighter lock-up, reduced recoil, etc., etc., etc....

Good that u could find $20 each for a mag. Also the gen4 comes with 3 changeable grip sizes and gen4 is the latest version. Anyway it all comes back to self preferences.

I got the G17 Gen 4. My wife liked the way Gen 4 handled over the Gen 3. I have never been much of a Glock fan but the G17 has been very good in accuracy but a little problem with stove piping. I have been taking it to the fun matches of late. I'll take care of teh stove piping issue next weekend with the Glock smith.

I like everything about the gen 4s but I have heard bad things about stovepiping. But... My research inidcates that it happens only with weak rounds such as an occasional light load in cheap bulk ammo... But Idk that's just what I gathered. If that's the case then its no big deal...

I went with the gen 4.. I shot both and I really like the feel of it. And on top you get 3 mags instead of 2.

Think maybe hand size has something to do w/decision which is a way has alread been covered above...I have a G23 and G26 3rd gen and am thinking of trading my G23 for a 4 Gen 19 to standize calibers and work with my small fat hands.

I just haven't warmed up to the grips of the gen 4 yet, aas far as looks or feel. I have not had a problem out of my gen 3 so I don't feel the need for the gen 4. I shoot my FIL's gen 1 and gen 2 Glocks every now and then and they feel quite different to me but shoot fine.

I got the Gen 4 because the grip was just about right. Slapped on a Hogue sleeve and now I'm good in cc holster, sweaty, wet, or ultra dry conditions. My Glock is my rod and it comforts me.

I have a G4 G19. It is a better fit for me and has been perfectly reliable.

    I have both GEN 4's a 23 & a 27 both guns have been flawless. Just over 800 rounds & no issues.

I prefer using them with no back straps fits my hand like a glove.

I have also owned GEN 2's & GEN 3's either way they are all good guns to have. The GEN 4's with out the back straps are just like the SF models. So I f you like the GEN 3 better see if you can get 1 as a SF. Just a thought??
