They are both good guns but I give a slight edge to the .308 because I own one.So what does eveybody think about it?.

Without more information about what the purpose is, it's nothing more than a popularity contest. I don't think you can choose wrong with either of the calibers.

Indeed. Both are very popular and well used calibers in rifles.

For deer to black bear to maybe elk - the reason I put it here is because I seen on other sites people say the 270 is better! and I dont agree!

They are both good rounds, personaly I would give the .308 a small edge because of the vast amount of bullet weights and charges that it has. Other then that I would take either one.

I chose .308 because it is short action, ammo choice and availability. Short action for ammo consolidation if and when I get my semi-auto. :(

If your talking deer hunting, a 270, 30/30, 308 and 30-06 are the standards!

Which you pick from that group is mostly personal preference that fits the particulars of your hunting style.

    My preference is the 270.

If you are taking game like deer at a longer range,.270 has the advantage, but for up close to medium range,.308 is better, you don't want to dress a deer that's been shot with a .270 at 25 yards-trust me.

Based on what I've read, yes. 270 can reach a little farther and projectile trajectory is flatter. They both have their little pros and cons but not too far apart and really boils down to personal preference.

Yes,that's what a .270 was designed to do,neck down a 30-06 to shoot flatter than '06,and the 30-06 is even a little flatter than .308.Now in maximum range,I don't know maybe they are equal, but for hitting that target at 300 yards faster and flatter-.270 is the way to go.

I switched from .270 to .308. The biggest reason for me was ammo versatility. There are a lot more .308 options out there than .270. Plus I wanted to streamline my collection to be all the same ammo as much as possible. Now I run only .22, 5.56, .308, and 12GA in my primary weapons. (excluding pistol rounds of 9mm and .45 and my .30 carbine that was a gift from grandpa)
I still have my Ruger No.1 in .375H&H mag but I am going to sell that to build an AR-10 as soon as I get off my dead a$$ and post it for sale.

I have shot deer as close as 20 yards with my 270, I could not tell any difference in cleaning them versus the ones at 150 - 200 yards. As long as its not a gut shot, it never made much difference. But I shoot 140 grain Accubonds as opposed to the smaller 130 grains.

As far as calibers, I own and shoot both, and have no doubts about either. I give a slight edge to the 308 because it is shorter. Combine the short round 308 with the short bolt throw of a Browning A or X bolt and you have a sweet hunting setup.

because the .308 was already adopted by nato so they use that along with 9mm nato(124 gr 9mm+P Fmj) and 5.56 nato

I'll wager the answer to that question goes deeper than just comparison of the ballistics of the two rounds. Probably some senator/congressman had a 308 factory in his state/district that had to be kept open.
