While at Cabela's yesterday I found a box of Hornady 300gr XTP for $6 a box of 50. I only have Unique powder right now but I couldnt find load data for this powder. Im planning on getting a different brand of powder just wondering if anybody knows of a load with Unique. Or what brand of powder would work good with 44mag. These will be shot out of my S&W 629 with an 8 3/4 inch barrel. Thanks.

Kind of a fast burning powder for that bullet. I'd recommend something like H110, W296 or IMR 4227. Lyman lists the following for 300 gr. H110 and W296 20.5 gr. max. No lower than 19.7 gr. Both those powders use magnum primers. IMR 4227 18.5 to 21 gr. standard large pistol primer.

H110 is the most recommend so far to me for my 44mag loads. May have to gp get some in the morning.

8.3 to 8.5gr would a max load with unique but still at only 44 sp velocity with a 300gr xtp. If your going to hunt with it look at your manual, pick a powder that serves you better and buy a pound. You made a great buy on those bullets so you can afford to buy a better powder for them if hunting is the use.

4227 can be problematic to light off. I would use a Mag primer with any 300 gr load, especially in Michigan. Colder temps call for hotter primers

I'm a 2400 guy myself, but any of the recommended powders will do nicely.
$6 per 50? Was the building on fire? Please tell us you grabbed as many as you could carry.

I load the 300g XTP with 17.5g of 2400 with a mag primer. It USED to be a max load, but manuals now dont show it that high. My 7.5" Redhawk (tank) likes that load very well. Its hot though, and I sure wouldnt start out there.

H110 or Winchester 296 (same powder). Last time i was at Canela's they had Winchester 296 in stock along with 2400. The 2400 was a little high in price.

I have used H110 with the 300 grain XTP. Great for hunting. Not much fun at the range. I was shooting a 7 1/2 New Model Super Blackhawk.

The box they were shipped in was damaged when they were putting them on the shelf. The guy was putting them back in the box and I asked him what they were. He told me 300gr .430" xtp, I asked why he was putting them back in the box. The red boxes they are put in were damaged also. I asked if he would sell them as damaged product. I talked to the manager and he said what about $6 a box. I picked up 5 boxes and went on my way. The sticker price on the shelf was $15 a box.

Went to Cabela's Sunday morning before going to the range and they didnt have any H110, so I bought a pound of Winchester 296 and will try out that powder with my 44mag and see what I can do. Also, when I went to the range I got ro fire my new Ar and my newest reloads for my .45acp and they worked like a champ. Even made a dollar off of a bet with my buddy. I had bought a box of clay pigeons. My buddy was shooting my 1911 and I was shooting my mother in laws Lcr. I had put a clay pigeon out about 25 yards and he bet me he could hit it before me. We went shot for shot. I hit it on my third round, I put another out there and told him to hit it. It was a fun day at the range.
