I have an opportunity to buy an old model Blackhawk in .30 cal, 7 1/2" barrel in very good condition, for $450. Could use some input as to whether it would be a worthwhile investment. I am a big fan of OM blackhawks but I don't reload and understand most all .30 cal factory loads are more suited for carbines. I'm not a collector so I look to practical uses for my guns. I guess that's the stick, is it practical?

Buy it- Its not a great investment if your just lookin to make a buck tho---
OM's are a bit hard to come by & the 30cal is scarce these days-
$450 is fair- not a steal but fair-

I agree with HOSSFLY, if you will ever want one in 30 cal, buy this one. They are seldom seen and the price is about right. Though I like the OM Rugers, I would have zero interest in a 30 cal.

Buy it. They're a hoot to shoot with lots of muzzle flash and noise. OM Blackhawks are built like tanks, so don't concern yourself with wear and tear unless the previous owner mistreated it. The .30 Carbine is essentially a pistol round so ammo shouldn't be an issue.

Buy it. I love old model Blackhawks. I have a .30 carbine in a NM.

If nothing else its a conversation starter. The .30 carbine shoots a ball of fire out of the barrel attracts lots of attention.

Buy it! You will never look back!

Don put it the best; "It is a pure hoot to shoot."

I got mine back in 1983 used for $145.

It's Magna-Ported and shooting this puppy at night is like a Pink Floyd concert! The noise, cylinder/forcing cone, Magna-Port and muzzle flash is real graphic!

With the 7 1/2" barrel it is deadly accurate. I got a western rig while in Monterrey Mexico for about $22US.

I love the looks of the wood stocks but if I'm going to shoot any volume I will put on the Pachmayrs.

I don't know if it's practical, but I'm sure it'll be a lot of fun.
$450 seems reasonable just off the top of my head. For someone who enjoys old Blackhawks, this seems like a must-have to me.

I have a number of Ruger old models but not a .30 cal. I've shot a friend's and I believe it is the loudest pistol I have ever fired and spits fire like a blowtorch. Looks like a good deal...I'd go for it. Best regards Dick

I've never had any experience with the .30 Carbine, but have heard a great deal about it. Years ago I some some correspondence with a man in Montana or Wyoming who swore by his .30 Carbine Blackhawk and took several head of pronghorn with it.

And fairly popular today is to have a .32-20 cylinder made up for it. Its giving the .32-20 a new lease on life in some areas.

Well now, I own a Ruger paperweight. Was able to find one box of .30 cal fmj for $42. None at the gun show, and out of stock on line. For now, no more range time, am sitting on every round I have. 5.56 is going for a buck a round. Scary.
