I am about to trade a guy and don't know much about it so I'm looking for info and opinions
I love it, to me its just a .25-06 on steroids !...............I love my 06 variants.
Thanks guys. Its a savage 110 with the accu-trigger, and no box mag its top load it looks brand new
Great round mate and loaded with the right projectiles it makes a great big deer round out to 300m fairly easy.
Ive shot big critters with it and 130gr SPs but they were up close and projectile never exited, for ranges out past 200 id opt for bonded bullets and prefer 140gr accubonds.
What I like about the calibre so much is it packs the power but isnt heavy on recoil, which in my book reads a more accurate capable round.
Bastard son of the 30/06 and a great back up to the 30/06 responsible for taking a lot of game around the world. Very popular here in Australia as well where it's taken everything from foxes up to camels and sometimes buffalo though very undergunned for that.
Load it with a good 130 grain projectile and you'll never look back.
You should trading for a great cartridge and fine solid rifle. Got a scope on it too !
My favorite round for big hunting. You will love it and should be very accurate as Savage rifles have a good reputation for accuracy. I have shot at least 100 deer with one going all the way back to 1973. Get it and enjoy!!!
I recently sold mine to by a .308. Now I find myself figuring out a way to buy another .270. Lol I love the cartridge. My next purchase will definitely be a .270.
+1 on the .270. A very flat shooting, accurate round
Yea a Simmons pro staff 4-12x42 i think that's what it is anyway we haven't traded yet but if he decides to I'll post a pic
I chose .308, and .30-06 due to keeping my reloading bullets to a minimum, since they can be used for both. But absolutely nothing wrong with the .270. It's a great rifle round.
Yea i wanted a .308 just becouse you can get cheap ammo but i can just get a .223 to coyote hunt with.
I was wondering about range how bad is the drop after 200yds
Here's the ballistic tables of most rifle rounds. As you can see it is a very flat shooter.
Thanks guys its seems to be a good medium range round shoots flat about as flat as a 22-250
About the only other cartridge that packs a wallop with a light recoil is another bastard child of the 30/06 the 25/06. If you don't like or shoot the gun you are trading you will not go wrong with a savage 270. The savage will put food on the table or provide you with hours of fun for many years to come. If you take care of the rifle and don't do anything stupid someone in your family will inherit the rifle. All through the recent ammo shortage there was 270 ammo on the shelf every where. The 270 is overlooked and under appreciated.
I WAS going to make a smart alek remark about a weak, inaccurate has been round but then I thought it might inflame some folks and even possibly get me banned! SO I'm just gonna say for ME the .22 is for small game, and anything else is 30-06 or bigger!
That is ridiculous. .30-06 will kill small game too.
