Taurus TX-22 or Ruger MKIV would be my choices. The MKIV/45 is polymer with a grip angle of a 1911 from what I've read. I like the all metal MKIV better. The Taurus TX-22 is also polymer, but so far I have had zero failures with mine and it's 16+1 capacity in the free states. I wish I would have gotten 1 each of the Ruger MK series, but the only one I have is a 1976-ish Standard. I had one I bought back in the 60s but stupidly sold it to my neighbor because I needed some cash at the time. Once I realized the error of my ways I got the 1976-ish model.
I don't know if they still make them but I also have a GSG/ATI 1911/22 that has been a great firearm. Their Firefly has been finicky in the past but after 2000rnds or so is also shooting as it should, and after polishing the almost tar-like substance off the feed ramp.
I would try to handle as many as you can and get the one that feels good in your hand and looks good to your eyes. If you can shoot them before buying is even better but guns that don't shoot well don't stay on the market very long. What I'm saying is most guns you see for sale have decent track records.
