I know the warning label on a box of .22 lr ammo says dangerous for over a mile. But what is the actual affective kill shot range of a .22 lr.

I am thanking of setting up a 10/22 as a sniper system. Just incase I run out of ammo in my bigger guns. Plus I can stock up on more .22 ammo.

Any advice on what would be the best threaded barrel to go with for maximum accuracy and range would be grate also.

I would say max effective range is just over 100 yards. After that bullet drop is killer.

Still a fantastic survival gun. How else can you carry 1000 rounds in your pants pockets?

Become a supporting member and find out. Lol there is quite a bit you miss for the lack of $15 investment.

I don't know that it's a practical 'sniper' round. As it's a lot easier to find a 100-200 yard range than a 600-1,000 yard range, some practice long range with a 22lr at reduced distances with reduced size targets. Additionally, the .22lr gets tossed around by wind like crazy. If you can hit the x with a .22lr at 100 yards on a breezy day regularly, hitting a bull at 400 with a 5.56 or at 600 with a 308 should be a piece of cake.

You might want to consider .22 MAG or .17 HMR instead.

It's worth it. Opens up more stuff in the forums and shows you're really part of the family. There are other benefits I'll leave as a surprise and more coming in the future.

Frankly, you'd be better off with a Savage or Marlin if you want a sniper system, and with those, you'd not have to change out the barrel.

Marlin 795 w/ Ramline folding stock, bipod, & sling...

Marlin 25MN (grandpappy of the XT22M's) in .22WMR...dead coyote's at up to 160 yards so far :)

.22lr is quite deadly to pumpkins at 800 yards as well...hehehe!!

Frankly, just about ALL bullets can be lethal further than they can be shot ACCURATELY. A 30-06 or 8mm Mauser is potentially lethal at a range of 4 miles. But the only thing you will hit with any degree of certainty at 4 miles is the Earth.
