Why is everyone loading up on 22 ammo. I go to dunhamssports or Walmart to buy ammo and the pass two weeks the shelves have been cleared but they got all kinds of other ammo wtf. Both just got shipment in on Thursday and there out Saturday?

Getting close to Christmas. Maybe a bunch of kids are getting .22s from Santa. Maybe you have s lot of doomsday preppers in your neighborhood who didn't here about the other Mayan calendar that goes on for several thousand more years.

Yeah I went to Walmart and almost all of the ammo was gone I was gonna buy another 550 round box of .22lr and some 20 gauge buckshot. Though they had all the big calibers still saw another gun I want there as well a .30-06

    Yep,
    There are several reasons.

    1. Christmas
    2. Target Shooting
    3. Good barter and trade value if the SHTF
    4. Also use for obtaining food anytime
    5. Quieter Round regarding detection *Especially with Suppressors
    6. Value and ease of storage in quantity

A buddy of mine outside San Diego told me yesterday that he went to Walmart and couldn't find any of the cheaper fmj 9mm and 45acp ammo. There was plenty of the hi-velocity hollow points though. He even went to a gun shop that was also out and no one has any explanation for it. I'm always looking for .22 shorts for my Winchester pump and can never seem to locate any.

Well, I was going to ask, but since I'm new here and all, I thought maybe it was an inside joke and decided not to.

I read an article yesterday that mentioned the 'perfect storm' for gun and ammuntion sales right now. It's Christmas, there's the Mayan thing, there's post-election ban fears and also a general feeling that SHTF is just around the corner. In addition, women are buying weapons and ammo in record numbers now. The article said women account for 43% of weapons sales now, which is an all-time high.

I paid $350 for 1k of PMC .223 in October at LuckyGunner.com. I checked today and it is $400. Maybe things will slack off after Christmas. Or maybe higher prices and periodic shortages are going to be the new normal.

We have plenty of 22 ammo here. 9mm ammo is getting hard to find. Seems like everyone is shooting IDPA. I shot an event today. There were over 80 entrants from all over.

i order most of mine.. secure websites only.. ie cheapen than dirt or midway. they got what you want and you just have to buy a little more to make the shipping worth it .. i see alot in the stores around here but not the stuff i want right now..

and then there is the many good reasons listed above. as well as the .22lr is the most popular round period and depending where you live it may be even more so because of the lack there of elsewhere.

only thing i am really worried about right now is socialism......

Haven't seen any shortages here in Mid-America, both of the big outdoor stores (Cabela's & Bass Pro) have bulk .22 in their flyers and stacks of it ammo cans in the stores. There may be some supply and demand hiccups in places but not a general problem except in some minds.
I don't sweat the Mayans or the North Koreans or the Democrats or much else. I grew up with the A-Bomb threat ("duck and cover!") and had my summers ruined by the fear of Polio. The Cuban missile crisis came the year I got out of high school closely followed by some maniac assassinating the President. Since then I've had two weddings (one didn't take, the other did) and one war (Vietnam) followed by parenthood and trying to survive in a culture filled with jerks who believe it is their God-given right to cheat people out of their earnings (and I'm talking about some "sharp" businessmen in this instance; long story...). Because of all the above I refuse to get all pissy-pantsed about every bit of drivel that plops off the internet. I may get surprised some day, but I won't have wasted a lot of energy worrying about it before it comes to pass. But if that's what yanks yer zipper then be my guest, just don't expect to see me digging spider holes so I can defend my supply of Preparation-H from the (fill in the threat of your choice).

I think each Walmart may differ in sales, depending on the big spenders in that store's sales area.

Mine has a hard time keeping Winchester White Box 100's in .45 ACP FMJ.

I just picked up some CCI .22 CB Shorts for pest control, I noticed that the bulk/low cost .22 was low and/or out.
but the better stuff was in stock at the price and quantity that one would expect. ($8+ for 100 CB's :( )

I went to Academy the day after Obama got re-elected expecting to see the shelves completely empty. They were all sold out of .22 and .380 but stocked on all the rest. Asked one of the salesman and he said that people have been stocking up on .22 and .380 because that is the new "preferred" carry gun calibers.
