Do any of you have a favorite 22 caliber 1911? I wanted to buy a .22 for plinking and just to be able to do a lot of shooting. I did a lot of research, looked at Rugers, S&W, etc and happened to run across the Colt's Govt model 1911 22lr. Decided to buy it and man I love this gun, so glad I bought it. It's made by Carl Walther and imported by Umarex. Its a great gun. Anyone had any experience with this or any of the other 22lr 1911's?

I don't know when that pistol came on the market, but do not recall reading anything about them when I bought my GSG1911-22, or I'd probably opted for the Umarex Colt also.

I bought the GSG because of all the different 1911-22s & conversion kits I researched, it was the only one reputed to cycle well with standard velocity ammo & my primary reason for wanting one was for really cheap range fun. It hasn't disappointed me in that regard, but I may have to get the Colt anyway. :)

I think the gun has been out for 2 or 3 years. It has three models and I went with the rail gun. I've been shooting the cci blazers through without a hitch, but I did have a couple of problems with the cheap federal bulk ammo. Never buying it again, the ammo even looks cheapo made. Here's a link to info on the pistol:

Yeah, except for the duds mine handled the Federal bulk okay. A bunch of them needed a second strike & some wouldn't shoot at all so I finished that box & won't be buying anymore. The blazers, CCI Mini Mag & Remington 225 Golden bullets shoot real well.

I love the gun, fits my hand very well. I have a glock 31 357 sig and it's a fine gun but I like the way the Colt fits my hand much better, so much so that I'm thinking I'd really like to have a 1911 45 acp if I can find a good one for a reasonable price. Any suggestions?

Personally, I'd say the Colt or Kimber. Springfields also have a good rep but I don't own one. If for carry, my favorites are the light weight commanders, or in the case of a Kimber, the 4".

What about the Ruger SR1911? It looks like a pretty decent gun, especially like the stainless steel finish.

Yes, but the OP is the one that hijacked it so I guess that makes it okay? :)

Guilty as charged, I just really like my Colt .22 and it got me to thinking I need I may just need one in a .45. It's my first 1911 experience and I just fell in love with the design and all.

Yeah, you're hooked alright!! Just wait 'til you start looking at all the options available on off-the-shelf 1911s, plus the after market options available & tryin' to make up your mind which you want.:D

You'll agonize over the choice of your first one, buy it & before you get it broken in, come across another one ya just gotta have! :p And "the beat goes on".
