The weather was hell this rifle season in Missouri. Crazy warm and windy. After a frustrating weekend of hunting, I walked up on a nice 7pt buck and a doe in a field about 5pm on Sunday. They were about 75 yards away in tall grass. I shouldered my Marlin 30AS 30-30 with Skinner peep sights and aimed for the boiler room. Bang! He dropped on the spot, and she ran off. He got up a few seconds later...took two steps and went down for good.

Congrats on a nice Buck. I too got a nice 7-pointer. Had it on ground at 7AM. Used a cheap(nobody likes because it didn't cost $700)Mossberg ATR100 in 30-06 with Nikon Buckmaster(how's that for irony) scope and 150gr Federal.

9 days of pure Heaven in the woods with my bestest buddy (my 12 year old son)!

Next year I will have one more to add to the group Shade Jr's. younger brother
the Spawn of Shade! We will just say the apple not only feel close to the tree but

I'm down here in south Carolina sitting in a stand right now. I do not have the discipline to be still and quiet all at the same time. It is a skill I am practicing. If it weren't for this phone I couldn't handle it. Haven't killed a deer all season. Today is my gonna be my lucky day, I can feel it

BTW nice deer. And I am using a marlin 336

I just came in off the stand to grab something to eat and watch a movie with the youngun. I heard deer moving all around me, but they were just too deep in the thick brush for me to get a shot. They teased me for over an hour, just like a woman will do.

    19. I'd like to kill a buck but if I see a nice doe she's going down. Didn't have any luck yesterday.

Was supposed to try some 100 yard shots with my pistol for the hell of it for another thread, decided to go "hunting" instead. I put that in quotes because I went with my Mom and my 6 year old son. He's the mouth of the south, and doesn't know how the heck to whisper, but we still ended up seeing one at the very end.

We were on our way back to the house, my kid was running around in an open field screaming at the top of his lungs (I don't know why, he's just loud) an I saw the back end of a deer disappearing into some brush. When we got to the old RR bed on the other side of said brush, saw fresh tracks, like made in the last few minutes kind of fresh. They were headed up to the area behind my mom's barn, so we meandered that way. When we got up on the hill behind the barn, we looked down into the bottom below us, and I was able to see a light brown something moving right in the very edge of the tree line about 300 yards away. We stood and watched for a minute, because honestly I thought it was a branch with a bunch of dead leaves still clinging to it. And well, after a minute, it disappeared. I sent my son to the house, my mom and I hiked down to the tree line and looked around. Fresh tracks and a scrape. I wasn't about to shoot though, heck I thought it was a branch at one point, I wasn't about to take that chance not knowing what the heck I would have been shooting at.

    Good call.

My son and I spent the last 7 days near Black River Falls, WI. Didn't shoot
because we never saw a deer that we could shoot at. Out of the six of us
only one person saw a single deer nice doe and he shot at it. The deer are
there, lotsa sign. They were moving between 10 pm and 2 am per the trail
cams. Meaning they are well fed and fat and with the very warm weather
we have had this fall not hungry at all. Maybe late doe season...
