1994 Ammo

I am in search of two items, I am not necessarily posting this as a WTB add; however, if it happens... but what I am trying to figure out is how to tell if an ammo box, full or empty, is from a certain vintage/year - here is what I am looking for, for a gift.

1977 .38 Special
1994 .357

Any guidance will be appreciated.

Every box in later years will have a "lot" number. Manufacturers can use those to determine when a box of cartridges was made. Unless the box is perhaps a special run commemorative or promotional run, this might be hard to do. Best of luck on this.
Ya, I don't want to have to go through all that - I do think this could be challenging. They don't seem to date the box.
