    I was recently given a winchester 1894. the serial number is under 1,000. It is in poor shape though. the tang has been broken and brazed back together. the stock has also seen better days. I also received a merwin & hulbert early model without the top strap and has the original ivory grips. the nickel is gone and the action is in poor shape.

    I was wondering if these two guns where worth restoring or if it is even possible. I am not concerned with cosmetics but i would like to be able to shoot them.

    you could have asked me if I had pics, you did not need to be rude and tell me my thread was useless. This was my first post here and my last. I will find another site to seek help.

    I apologize if you mistook my post for rudeness, it was intended to be humorous. You also might consider losing some of your sensitivity. This is a gun board, not a Knitting Forum.

    Apparently he was not very savy on the internet or gun forums. Posting that "this thread is useless with out pictures" is very common and is generally done in jest. For someone to get that PO'd over a silly picture may mean they will not be a productive member anyway. I find it unfortunate he is going away mad.

    It was never my intention to drive away a new member. However, in this case it wouldn't appear to be much of a loss.

    I enjoy this place and want to see it prosper, so I do my best to do my part. Apparently this gent was a bit overly sensitive.

    It's too bad. I would have liked to see a picture of that Merwin Hulbert.

    Waaaaaaaaaaaay too thin skin to be a productive FTF member!

    CA357 you may have done us all a favor!

    Or as I have said ad nauseum, :F**K 'em if they can't take a submarine joke!" [IMG]

    Ok so I overreacted, sorry for that. It was my first time posting in any forum ever. Just not what i was expecting. I was dealing with my now ex wife (as of today) all day yesterday so i wasn't in the best of moods. Again I am sorry. The good news is now I expand my gun collection.

    No worries - The guys here love to talk guns, and they are willing to help with just about any issue, so if you have questions, please ask. However, anytime you can include pictures about what you are talking about, it will be better for the guys to be able to respond with the information you are seeking.

    With a little time you will find that these guys are some of the friendliest, most knowledgable around. :D

    Glad you came back, I hope you got my private message/explanation. I'm sure someone will have info for you on these guns.

    Keep in mind that if someone gets overly rude with you or another member, please PM one of the Moderators and we will try to straighten things out or take the appropriate action against the offending party. We aim to keep this a civil forum with all members exchanging information in a friendly and helpful manner. When that breaks down, we will fix it. It just may take a couple of days.

    [IMG] back schemi, glad you gave us another shot. (Pun intended!)

    You only need two things to have a positive experience here at the FTF;
    A thick skin and,
    The ability to laugh at everything including yourself.

    You will soon discover that you are now a member of a remarkable, albeit somewhat irreverent bunch of knowledgeable, generous and professional gun owners anywhere!

    When it comes to firearms forums, I have been around the horn and this is the one I'm proud to call my home!

    So satisfy my curiosity, "Does it have a hemi in it?"

    Or does your tag refer to something non-automotive?

    OBTW, CA357 beat me to the photo request post! This is what I would have done if I had got to your post before him;

    WHERE'S YOUR PHOTOS PUKE?

    Here's another bit of sage advice, when you're ready become a supporting member. With your access to "The Bunker" and the ability to express yourself with 'free-range speech' you will find it very cathartic. (Hell, I already don't like your ex plus it's much cheaper than therapy!)
