Anybody know what a good 1911 rail would be? I was looking at NcStar Flashlight/Laser Pistol Rail Adapter. I see a few different ones on eBay.

Brownells sells one made by Novak for 59.99 or they have a brownells brand rail for 50.99. I think the Novak is the better one

Chad, not many 1911 guys like or want a rail on the gun.

I looked up the ncstar rail that you mentioned, it looks pretty bulky and awkward to me. The novak rail keeps your 1911 the same size as a 1911 that is factory equipped with a rail. You can use any holster that fits a 1911 w/rail..

Yes you can I assume- But if you put sumthing on the rail the holster is useless so why worry about that point

Yes using a weapon light does have its disadvantages, especially as a LEO. There are times when its fine to use one , the main draw back for duty use is that when you utilize a weapon light it has to come back off before you can reholster " unless you have a holster that accomodates a mounted weapon light but i havent seen one for a 1911" otherwise you may be wasting valuable time taking off the light to reholster when your about to go hands on with someone in an already tense situation.

I use it for home protection and the range. I'm only an EMT. I live in California and have no reason to carry it on me, also it's impossible to get a conceal carry permit here hehe.

Well just put it this way, you DO have a reason to carry.its just harder to do it in anti-gun liberal land, not impossible though. If you want a rail then get one, they do come in handy sometimes.i would just advise against using a rail accessory "weapon light" if the transition from weapon to holster to hands on requires the fastest speed possible, ive been there,it can hinder you just enough to turn the tides on you if your engaging someone. I know that you said that you wouldnt be using it for duty use but i just figured i would throw that out there. Stay safe out there brother..

    Ps...im originally from california myself...Bakersfield

Nice nice Mr Wray, so is Merle Haggard.

To the OP, believe it or not, you have a good reason to get one if you can.
It's better to have one and never use it then to need it and never have it.
