Hi, I am restoring several WWI era 1911s that need the basic lettering done on the slides. Nothing fancy, just a decent recreation of what the factory did 90 years ago. Can anyone recommend a vendor who can do this? If so how much does this type of work generally run? Thanks for your help.

dclevinger does awesome work. Look around this section to see some of the stuff he has done. Contact him by PM or by his website for more info. http://www.dcengraving.com/

Might head over to http://www.1911forum.com/ and give a looksee there are some darn good 1911 smiths that hang out over there. (Beware that crowd can get a little snotty at times) over all the best place for 1911 info and questions.
