Hi guys looking for ammo for a winchester 1903 .22 automatic? Or know where to purchase any?
Aguilla is doing some runs of this.
Not cheap, either. BTW, stop by the intro thread and say hello.
Just wondering would it work in a 22lr single shot? Or is it slightly bigger?
it is larger than 22 lr
so cases would likely split.
The Winchester .22 Auto is .224 and works great in a .22 Mag. for low velocity loads. Winchester continues to make runs of this ammo from time to time. I bought a thousand 2 years ago.
I suspect that you are thinking of the 22 Winchester Rim Fire (22WRF). It's a different cartridge, sort of a 22 Magnum Short. CCI and Winchester still make it.
The Winchester 22 Auto was designed back when lots of 22 LR ammo was still black powder. The fouling it caused made semiauto 22s jam quickly, so Winchester released the 1903 rifle and a special 22 cartridge that was only loaded with smokeless ammo. I'm sure this was a good idea at the time, but black powder ammo fell out of fashion and the reason for the Winchester 1903 and its special Winchester 22 Auto ammo disappeared with it.
Navy Arms / Old Western Scrounger used to have 22 Auto ammo 20+ years ago, but I don't see any listed on their website now.
Natman got it. This is an obsolete cartridge that is about $20 per 50 rounds plus shipping WHEN YOU CAN FIND IT. Click on the link I posted. NO, it does not work in anything chambered in .22 LR. It is not .22 WRF.
22 Win auto case diameter and rim diameter are both larger than 22 mag.
