I have a Marlin Bafener .22 rifle model 1892. It has been handed down through a few generations now. I would love to have it restored, what is the best way to go about doing that? Thanks for any and all help.
"As-Is" as in missing cap and spring or "As-Is" as in metal and wood finish/patina? Replacing the cap and spring (and the cartridge follower, since it will likely be missing as well) will not lower the value. Also, a properly restored arm can be worth as much as or more than a like un-restored one, depending on the un-restored condition.I picked up a Winchester 94 in 32-40, out of a guys garage years ago for a $100. One day I thought I'd have it worked on, the only thing it needed was a magazine spring and cap, which the gunsmith found for me. If it was restored it would reduce the value, after some research I found it was made in 1896, I have left it as is, it's shootable and sure has a lot of charactor. Just something to consider.
