    -------------------------

    by popular demand and for the ones who couldnt come in APR, im offering it again in OCT. start planning now!

    i enjoy bringing cyber posters together to share something in common, shooting! being retired military, i have a lot of free time to devote to my passion, shotgun sports and people. i enjoy it so much, that i bought this abandoned range a few years ago, just to have people come out and learn to shoot. it also gives the locals something to do after those long hard days on the farm. i live in va.. so i only visit up to mo. twice a year. so i'd like to offer you all a chance to come meet me at my place for a great little getaway which i promise will be worth your time.
    i use to shoot on the navy shooting team, rifle, pistol, and shotgun. i was on the world champion navy skeet team that won gold in san antonio back in the 90's. i know the game.
    to make your visit to the ftf meet worth the trip, im offering free instruction and coaching to all that sign up.
    i prefer it to be 'bring your own shotgun,' but if you dont have one, i will ensure some will be here for you to borrow for free. and too, others will surely bring some to loan as well.
    i will open my clubhouse for free as well.
    it has a kitchen, so anyone is welcome to use it to cook. i cant cook for you guys....i'll be teaching on the range, so if you want to bbq or eat grub, bring your own food and cook it yourselves. i also supply coffee to all shooters for free.
    the range parking lot is big enough for campers. i dont have sewage, but i do have free electricity and water hookups. bring your extention cords and hoses. so if you want to bring a camper to save on motels, feel free. pitch a tent too if youd like.

    the clubhouse is knotty pine, has running water, toilet, heat and ac.

    weather is always the stick in the mud, so we all really do need to plan this as a weekend event. banking on one day is a gamble. so plan it as a weekend getaway and enjoy some of the sites around here if it rains. if you can get here friday, it will give us wiggle room. if you leave monday morning, even better. but i understand most of you must return for work. we will shoot sunday if one of the days is a washout.

    tickets are 50.00. bring 10 boxes of shells and 3 (90 count) cases of targets.
    many pitch in to make the trophy free and many pitch in to give free prizes to winners. the more people give, the more the winners win. we will gladly receive any other donated items needed to hold the meet, like cases of clay targets, donations to maintain machines, etc...
    this match is designed for beginners to get a feel for the sport on a budget. i will shepard you thru the basics to the 5 different games for free.
    of course if youre a skilled shooter, come as well! but to ensure there are no ringers, the top score must shoot against me in the last event if they want to win; because, i shoot in proxy for last place. if i win, last place wins the match. high score wins the prizes. so dont be scared away over a match due to a lack of skill. its a lot of fun.
    and when the meet is over...we all either have a pot luck closing ceremony or attend a dutch steak dinner at the local pub called club 60 in mountain grove, mo.. it goes well into the night.

    http://www.urbanspoon.com/cities/210-missouri/restaurants/1066216-club-60-steak-house/menu

    so get out there in the ftf forums and send people this direction.

    ---------------------------------------

    for those choosing to come, heres your bug out list................

    * shotgun, 12ga or 20ga. must have shoulder stock. must be in working order. suggest pump, semi, o&u, or sbs.
    * interchangable chokes both IC & FULL. SKT will be fine too. if you dont have a gun with interchangable chokes, bring two shotguns...one with a full and one with a skeet or IC choke in it.
    * 10 boxes of ammo, 7 1/2 or 8 shot.
    * 3 cases of walmart clay targets
    * ball cap
    * rain gear
    * safety glasses, clear or smoked.
    * shell pouch if you have one. (dont buy one, i have some you can borrow.)
    * ear plugs, not ear muffs. those big dorky ones will interfere with your stock fit to your cheek.
    * batters gloves. nice but not needed.
    * 10 gallons of nerves
    * 1 humble pie

    ---------------------------------------------

    for those considering coming, here are the ground rules......

    VCPF Range Rules:

    Rangemasters decisions are final.
    Drug or alcohol use prohibited on the premise. Period. The management has the right to deny shooting privileges if detected.
    Eye and ear protection required when shooting or in the shooting area.
    Guns & ammo are subject to inspection. Shoulder stocks are required.
    Guns entering the clubhouse must be opened and confirmed empty before racking.
    Shouldering, dry firing, and loading of firearms in the clubhouse is prohibited.
    A game is 25 targets. Shoot only 1 shot at 1 target.
    Extra targets not allowed, unless one is thrown broken.
    Carry only one gauge of ammo when shooting.
    Load only when you are on a firing station. Otherwise, keep your firearm unloaded with the action open.
    Load no more than 2 rounds at a time.
    Load only 1 round on station 8 high house and 1 round for ATA trap.
    Don’t swing past the center stake on station 8.
    Everyone shoots station 8 high, then everyone shoots station 8 low.
    If your gun gives an odd report, cease fire, unload your gun, and check the bore for an obstruction.
    Stop all shooting when a cease-fire is called. Open all actions and unload.
    Be alert for people in the shooting area or downrange.
    Don’t shoot at wildlife or livestock. Dogs must be leashed and policed.
    Don’t shoot if an orange cone, flag, or hat appears on the trap bunker.
    Don’t walk past the far edge of the houses unless loading the bunker.
    Don’t shoot the houses. If you do, confess and paint it.
    No shot larger than #6 allowed on this range.
    Children must be kept within arms reach at all times. Infants not allowed on the range. Period.
    Children who can not safely hold, mount, or swing a firearm properly, may not shoot.
    To reduce the risk of lead ingestion, no eating or smoking while shooting. It is advised to thoroughly wash hands and face after shooting.
    You may keep whatever hulls you came with. All others are club property and must remain.
    Did i say the rangemasters decisions are final? Good. Just checking.

    admin note.....april was the last meet where i will carry over games. if you dont use your 10 games in the 3 days i provide the range, thank you very much.
    so if you have leftover unused games on the books, come oct and use them, or donate them. USE THEM OR LOSE THEM.
    many of you just come for one day. but its a 3 day event. granted, i understand we all have lives and schedules, but if im going to prep and run the range for 3 days, it would be nice to see some people use it. so no hard feelings.

    I understand the frustration, especially with the likes of me. If me and my boy are available, we will be there; but remember he is heavy into sports, a registered Skeet shooter and I am a registered Trap Shooter and I coordinate Shooting events also. So, all I am saying is one word....dangbusyrealbusy.

    growth is my main concern. because as time goes by and what once was an exciting draw, becomes old hat to most. without new members investigating the shoot, interest will die. im not stupid. my marketing course taught me well. it happens. case in point, this aprils shoot would not of happened if it wasnt for leftover attendees and anon ticket donors.
    which means, its already happening. the shoot has shrunk to a handful of dedicated attendees. all the new faces that came were the result of me drawing them from other websites are people with leftover games. if farmboy3010 didnt bring his family, ftf would have had its first canceled match.

    matches come in 2 forms. fun shoots and sanctioned shoots. its either a good time or cut throat competition to win at all costs.
    the mainstream clay sports is primarily molded around competition sports.
    mine is designed to get high exposure to a group who would otherwise never be drawn to it, because of the fast pace and high expectations the competition sport demands of its competitors.
    mine slows it down, so new shooters can focus on them and understand them. we still have a certain level of competition , but we're not pressured to win. rather, you win as a result of chance more than individual skill.

    this is why i always encourage new or beginning shooters to come here, so they can make their mistakes here, around friends in a relaxed atmosphere....so when you do go out into the big world, you have a level of confidence already engrained in you.
    the only stressed ones should be my staff, as we keep the ball rolling.

    pace setting is my hardest task during a shoot. keeping on schedule is in a sense a part of the introduction to shooting clays. many may not realize this and may view me as a cattle driver during shoots. but if i dont do it, trust me, everyone here would still be shooting at midnight or talking about the latest joke on ftf while twitting and tweeting. lol!

    this is a 3 day event. its suppose to be a vacation shoot. people go to the world shoot for 5 days. the grand goes for a week. most skeet matches are weekend events. yet, the ftf shoot is primarily focused around the main event on saturday.
    i give shooters the option to shoot early or later to avoid being soaked if it rains saturday... by shooting friday or sunday.
    yet in all the events to date, rkb, jim L, and cinder were usually the only ones who would shoot a sunday and burn up their cards the way it was meant to be.

    this is one of the reasons im not carrying games over anymore. i feel if i prep the range for a 3 day event, at least shooters can do is show up and shoot.
    ive bent over backwards for the shooters to get a good product, and its not being utilized.
    thats why 2018 will be use it in the 3 days provided, or lose it.
    and in light of the fact that ive never asked for a cost increase in 5 years....i feel this is fair and honest.
    im not afraid to say it either, but its a pretty good time on the cheap, compared to other venues out there.
    i have no guilt asking for these changes.
    and i will repeat what ive said for years. if i was to charge what the meet should cost in the current shooting world arena, no one would come.
    business' and shooting organizations are motivated by money.
    my range is motivated by meeting and making friends.
    i hope everyone remembers that. all the shooters are family to me and i know you all by first names.
    nssa?ata?nsca? youre just a number on a docket.
    cold hard fact.

    im discussing an idea with some members thru pm's, on how to use up some of your ftf games.
    for those that live nearby, if youd like to pick a weekend where you can come and do some shooting here at the farm, put your minds together and come up with a day or night and let me know. since im going to be here at the farm into mid may, feel free to swing on by and have a good time.

    im also entertaining a trip to ozarks shooter south of springfield sometime this visit. care to meet there and shoot some clay? let me know!

    in case people wonder why im occasionally grumpy in appearence at the ftf shoots....
    while you all are enjoying the pot luck and tweeting each other, things like this are on my mind as i watch some of you shoot, because i know im the only one standing guard...............

    ================================

    Man accidentally shot at Kenosha County trap range

    A 64-year-old Kenosha man was accidentally shot while trap shooting at a Kenosha County range, authorities said Monday.

    The man suffered a serious wound to his abdomen and was taken to Froedtert Hospital by Flight for Life following the shooting Saturday morning, according to the Kenosha County Sheriff's Department.

    Donald Bekeleski, 72, of Elk Grove Village, Ill., was shooting a 20-gauge shotgun on the trap shooting range at the Conservation Club of Kenosha County in Bristol when his weapon malfunctioned. Bekeleski was trying to clear the malfunction when his shotgun fired, striking the victim standing about 20 feet away.

    The incident happened shortly before 11 a.m. Saturday.

    Kenosha County Sheriff Public Information Officer Sgt. Eric Klinkhammer said Monday morning that he did not know the medical condition of the victim.

    The case was referred to the district attorney's office for possible charges of causing injury by negligent handling of a firearm.

    practice safety all the time folks.
