    hey guys,i know this is a 1911 forum.But i noticed cane's sign off says im always 10 8.What does 10 8 mean?Police terminology for in use?or in service?Or something else?thanks much.steven

    10-8 code means in service and he's always offering up good advice so I'm going with that.

    Look I'll tell you this one. 10~8 means, " in service". If I tell you anymore police secrets, I'll be 10~15:)

    I thought it ment it was 10 to 8 & time for a beer :confused: :)

    Of course, while many folks are familiar with the 10 codes, few are familiar with the 12 codes.

    Developed for communication between officers to the Patrolman level, it includes usefull shorthand sort of items, such as

    12-45 Do you realize how stupid THAT was?

    12-60 All units copied your last transmission, and we think you are an idiot

    all the PD codes I know are for Adam 12 or dragnet and a few form my Son

    Just so you know not all 10 codes are the same. And some places do not use 10 codes anymore. My cousin was a Pa State police and they used 10 codes but now he is a municipal police officer he dose not use them now.

    Here is a quick list of the PA State Police 10 codes.

    10-4 Message Recieved
    10-5 Relay
    10-6 Stand-By (busy)
    10-7 Out Of Service
    10-8 In Service
    10-9 Repeat
    10-10 Negative
    10-13 Trooper Needs Help
    10-14 Escort
    10-15 Prisoner In Custody
    10-16 Pick Up Custody
    10-17 Pick Up ____ At _____
    10-18 Complete Last Assignment Soon As Possible
    10-19 Return To Station
    10-20 Give Location
    10-21 Call By Phone
    10-22 Cancel
    10-23 Stand-By
    10-25 Do You Have Contact With ____
    10-26 General Alarm, Prepare To Copy
    10-27 Any Answer To Our Request
