I know it's a worn out topic, but gaining input on scope choices always draws some good opinions, so I thought I'd float another thread on the subject. I decided to transform my 10/22 with a new .920 target barrel and stock, which means I should also switch out my 4x scope to something more appropriate for a target rimfire rifle. So, my only criteria is a 50mm objective. How 'bout some input boys...what do ya like out there?

If you want to plat at shooting smaller groups ,go to walmart and buy a centerpoint 4-16 scope for 69 dollars. . It has side focus and will focus down to 10yards for parilux. Good low cost solid scope. After than a 150 dollar mueller 4-14 seem to get used by many. It is good enought for my wife to shoot .300 groups at 50 yards with her ruger custom.

Depending on money, I've used Center Point and their glass is very good, but they didn't hold POI or have good tracking, but I did like their features for what you got. I own Weaver V16 Classic(4-16x42A/O), Redfield Revolution(2-7x32), Bushnell Banners(4-12x40A/O), Simmons 44Mag(4-12x44SF), BSA Contender(6-18x50A/O) and BSA Sweet 17(3-12x40A/O), Nikon Buckmaster(3-9x40), and Burris FullfieldII(3-9x40). All these scopes have been excellent for my needs, but I don't have the cheaper scopes on centerfires due to them not being able to holdup, but the Bushnell/Simmons/BSA scopes I have on my 17HMR and 22's they do fine and put lots of meat on the table.
One NEW scope that's just come out that I'm trying to find, is Redfield Revelation. It's a 4-12x40 with A/O, and being made by Leupold should be a quality product for it's price of around $175 or less that I've seen. A person doesn't really need a 50mm Objective lens if you have a scope with quality lens that has quality lens coatings if you're gonna just do plinking during the daytime. However if you just want a scope with 50mm Objective and A/O, for the price I would go with Mueller.

I've bought at least a dozen "el cheapo" scopes over the years and I've regretted every single one of them. Every one was a waste of money.
Any scope you get for less than $250 is probably going to be junk.
Buy quality, and buy once.
Buy "economy" and replace every few months.

check out the BSA Sweet 22 line of scopes. for a rimfire they are decent scopes with a decent price. i have a 6-18x40 Sweet 17 on my Savage M93r17 and it works great. optics are clear and bright and the SF parallax adjustment is easy to use. for the price they are good scopes. try out the 3-9x40 Sweet 22. i think it might be worth checking out.

Locutus, I totally disagree with you (my opinion) about the "less than $250 is probably going to be junk"........I have had high dollar scopes and low dollar scopes........I have a couple of $70 scopes that have been great for a number of years and some of my high dollar scopes spent more time back at the factory than on my rifles.
When buying scopes do a little research and check the reviews......Establish what you want the scope to do for you then buy accordingly......I would rather toss a couple of cheap scopes than have a high dollar scope that is only good for one thing and has to be pampered.

i have to agree to a certain point, and the reason is, optical glass has come a long way in the last ten years, as they have become much more affordable. there was a time when you had to spend big bucks for a good scope to be able to see clearly. on most hunting rifles you can get a decent scope for less than $300. on a rimfire even less than $100 will get you a decent scope. now if you step up to hunting longer that the average range and need larger magnification in a scope such as longe range varmint shooting or do a lot of precision target shooting or shoot larger caliber magnums, you might be better off spending $500 plus for a qaulity scope. i paid $280 for my Nikon Prostaff 4-12x40 that i put on my 25-06 and it works great. but i will also always suggest to buy the best you can afford. if you can afford a $500 or more for you rifle, then buy the best in that price range.
I like the idea of buying the best but what real matters is many a low cost scopes have worked and worked well for decades. I have a nice burris black diamond sitting on a shelf for the time that a first year simons atec gives up. Problem is I can still shot 2" groups at 400 yards with it some 20 to 24 years after buyng it. Same goes for a centerpoint scope. My wifes is very repetable between 25 yards and 100 yards . Way to many guys are useing mueller apvs for a 150 dollar scope that also works great. No need of a 300 dollar + scope on any .22 unless your shooting world class with it. Then $500 scope is junk.

Well Dan,
We all have different experiences in life, and we make our decisions based on those experiences. That's why there are so many choices available.
If you have good luck with low cost scopes, more power to you. I wish I could find a lower cost one that I wouldn't regret buying, but so far, I haven't.
