Well, my 5 year old grandson loves to shoot, but he is still a little on the small side. Even has to hold the Winchester 67a youth rifle under his arm. He has been shooting for a couple of years now and I let him try one of the 10/22s a while back. Well, I created a monster. All he wants to shoot now is the 10/22, but it is way to big. Having some extra stocks and a few new unfired barrels, I thought I'd make him the 10/22 youth rifle that Ruger never made.

I shortened the stock so the length of pull is 10". I also narrowed the forearm on the mill (it will better fit his small hands), then finished it in a dark walnut with a satin finish. The overall length is 30 3/4". Have not made the butt plate yet, but it will be mahogany. I shortened the barrel to 16 1/4" and gave it an 11 degree target crown. If it wasn't for all the political BS, this is the rifle Ruger needs to make for the small kids, which are the future of our sport.

I think KJ will love his new rifle.................

    Jim........:):):)

I would have trimmed the fore arm of the stock a few inches to make it look more proportionate (SP not sure if it is right or not).

Only one problem I see with your creation Jim......

You are going to need more grand kids to pass it down to once he grows out of it! :p

Wait a minute..... What??? No dovetail filler?

    KIDDING! :D

    Nice job!

Looks great. As was said before, try to get Ruger on board, and if they dont wanna do it, see if someone like Boyds Stocks might be interested in it. Im sure there would be a fairly decent sized market for a item like that.

Got some dovetail fillers, just not installed yet. Still have his younger sister, she is about 2 1/2. It is also easy to switch back to standard barrel and stock. Besides that, there will always be small ones to teach...
