Hi,

A real novice from UK, I bought a gun on a door step of a gun shop he was coming and I was going out. I have had it 6 years SWF it is a clear gun etc,

I did di a concealed carry class and the dog did eat my cert honest, I have not reset the test but not interested in carrying a concealed firearm.

I do whoever want to but a couple, 1 for my place of work because we get the odd case of heroism, and I want a big cannon type gun for home, I have a .357 stub nose and it bangs, I wouldn’t love a desert Eagle .50 as a major deterrent for look at my type of opposition,

I had a couple of Baretta shot guns and loved the competition of skeet Olympic trap and sporting, loved it,

so how do I go about purchasing making sure it’s all above board and not catch heat from the law

Thanks for any advice

Ken

welcome to the forum :)

there are a couple of members that live in the UK, I'm sure they'll be coming along to help you. but for the rest of us, we are Americans and wouldn't have the slightest clue what it would take to legally purchase a firearm in the UK.

you might want to edit your topic title to something like "help a fellow UK novice about a purchase" or something to that effect in the CLUB HOUSE forum, to catch those UK members eyes when they scroll down that forum.

Settle down, chilluns- you will frighten the new folks,

Ken- welcome to the forum. As an Admin, I can see the Internet Service Provider you are using, and can see that it is indeed in the US.

Couple of basic criteria- here in the colonies, there is Federal law that governs gun transfers by dealers, AND state specific laws. Let's start with the easy one- are you a RESIDENT? That is, do you permanently reside in that state? Have you become a US Citizen, or do you hold a green card as a permanent resident alien? While there ARE exceptions to that, in general, that is required.

If so, when you make a purchase from a dealer, you provide proof of age, identity and address (usually a driver's license) and you fill out a Federal form 4473. The dealer uses that to run an instant check with the FBI. You are prohibited from buying (or possessing) a modern firearm (rifle, shotgun, handgun) if you are an illegal alien, underage, are hiding from the constables, have been convicted on a major crime, been convicted of beating the trouble and strife, are a user of illegal drugs or an alcoholic, been dishonorably discharged from the military, a US citizen that renounced their citizenship, or had a judge declare you were mentally incompetent. If the computer gods are smiling, takes about 5 minutes.

Your STATE does not require a license to buy or to own. They DO require a waiting period between buying the gun and picking it up from the dealer.

A private sale between you and another resident of the state is legal, does not require a background check, but to be legal you still have to meet the same criteria as far as criminal record, etc.

I have the good fortune to have been married forever to a West Country lass from Cornwall. Where do you hail from, what do you like to shoot?

I'm not as skeptical as PABushman, but agree that UK folks need to help out the OP.

If this person lives in the USA there is no advice that I can offer him.

However, he has a very strange way of asking for help, and using such odd language, too, that gets my spidy senses ticking over like a Harley at a stop light.

The sentence - 'I do whoever want to but a couple, 1 for my place of work because we get the odd case of heroism, and I want a big cannon type gun for home, I have a .357 stub nose and it bangs, I wouldn’t love a desert Eagle .50 as a major deterrent for look at my type of opposition' - is nigh-on incomprehensible to me, and I speak tolerably good English, and have a Batchelor's in English to prove it.

I'm taking a raincheck on this one, Gentlemen - I'm sure you understand.

Folks, sometimes we get a one hit wonder. Could be a troll who does not get the reaction they were looking for, sometimes it is someone with one question- who, having gotten an answer, goes away. Odds are we will get a least one that posts a question, and gets run over by a beer truck before he can reply.

Important part- everybody here had a first post. Some of you so long ago it was stamped in cuneiform on a clay tablet. Let's DO try not to scare off the new kids- unless they NEED scaring off (in which case, let the Admins know- some of us can be REAL scary)

Y'all all have a good day-
C3
