The ak is a rifle? Dosent matter what type of rifle as long as its over 16 inches and an 18 year old can get it! :D Savage is pretty nice i like the acu trigers they have how much do they go for? What model savage? Like wgat is it called so i can google it :)

Look close at all of the top brands, study each model and all of its options, pick the one that just screams your name, ask all of the questions you can about that model, research that exact model on the internet from many sources, and then get it.

If you can't afford that exact model then pick something a little cheaper. I would say wait until you can afford it but there aren't many 18 year olds that can hold onto their money long enough to save up the difference. Better to have a slightly less expensive gun than no gun.:)

And happy birthday!!!

You dismissed the AR-15 so quickly because you said that you wanted a Heckler & Koch. I don't understand why you say no to an AR just because there happens to be a crazy expensive model you'd rather have.

If you've decided 7.62 over 5.56, there's no problem with that. Go for it! But please don't reject the entire platform because it is possible to go hog wild and spend double your limit. You can buy a solid AR for $1000, especially if you're willing to spend 30 minutes building your own lower.

I'd say go with that AK variant you wanted. You seem pretty set on it. If it were me and I had your budget I would probably opt for a mini-thirty by Ruger and spend the rest on ammo, optics, gun bag etc. The first rifle I bought was a S&W M&P15OR when I turned 19. Love the AR platform and it works well. As for that HK 416 I'm pretty sure is a select fire military weapon. It will probably come with a tax stamp and may or may not be legal where you live. They probably have a civilian legal semi version available so id look out for things like that. Stay safe, good shooting, and good luck.

You can but a good quality AR-15 at the present time for $900-$1000 or less. I like the AKs as well, but the ARs are more accurate and they are exceptionally more versatile regarding unlimited accessories for them. And the accessories can be put on easily my most AR Owners. You can always save up and put more new items on the rifle later. You can buy them with Front and Rear Flip up sights so an optic can be added on for Co-witness applications. And the AR Rifle Parts are available in abundance and will fit most brands of ARs! So no waiting on proprietary parts from one manufacturer. OMI!

That takes me back.
I remember my first rifle was one a co-worker was selling.
It was not really what Id have chose for myself.
It was a Chinese SKS.
If I was told I must buy a new/used centerfire rifle?
How much could I afford?
What would I use it mainly for?
Caliber?
Most likely a brand thats afforable.
Something that wouldnt break the bank to feed.

I liked that old Winchester 88 in .308 I foolishly sold off.
But that was more a deer rifle than a afternoon plinker like a Mosin and milsurp ammo.

Anything that spits out 9x19, .357mag, .40s&w, .45acp, 7.62x39, .223/5.56, should be pretty affordable to have a fun afternoon shooting.

The CZ 527 in 7.62x39 would be a fun rifle that due its a bolt-action would limit the chances of cooking off 2-3 box's of cartridges in short order.
