Good for the both of you, but in the future you should say your wife 'came into some money' not pounds!! Here in the USA that will not go over well with the wife!!!;)

If I was picking off that list I would go with the Beretta 92. For all practical purposes, there is not a better 9mm handgun. The Colt would be my second choice, but only because I have never gotten my jollies shooting .22 pistols. If the Colt were in .45 ACP it would win hands down.

Without looking it up what is a Pound compared to the US Dollar what is the values.
And what kind of hoops do you have to go through to get a new pistol.
I guess I assumed getting a gun in the UK was very hard and restricted.
Obviously if I am correct there is no such thing as a personal protection permit to carry.
Are the above pictured weapons your?

Yes they are ones i own, and some i have owned. You need a firearms certificate, its not hard to get filing in a form etc once its on my licence i can buy any handgun i want. For handguns you need to be in a gun club, unless its for self defence civilians can only get one for self defence if there is a creditable threat to your life, that's in this part of the UK handguns are much more difficult to get in the rest of the UK. Police officers officers army etc, are issued with PPWs for self defence when off duty.

1. POLICY STATEMENT (1) The Chief Constable is responsible for the administration of the firearms licensing system in Northern Ireland. This function is carried out on his behalf by Firearms and Explosives Branch, Service Improvement Department. (2) The licensing of firearms for the purpose of personal protection is a unique situation in Northern Ireland. To qualify for the grant of a personal protection weapon (PPW) an individual is required to meet certain conditions to satisfy the need for a PPW and the requirements of the Firearms (NI) Order 2004 (the Order). (3) The Policy provides the basis for decision-making by police staff in Firearms and Explosives Branch, who have delegated authority under Article 79 for the authorisation of applications for the grant of a Firearm Certificate for a PPW 2. INTRODUCTION (1) Summary (a) For the purposes of this Policy an applicant for a PPW will be deemed to have ‘good reason’ if it is established that: (b) There is a specific threat against the individual which creates a real and immediate risk verified by a specialist police report; or (c) In exceptional circumstances, a verifiable level of risk is established by other information and (d) The possession of a firearm is a reasonable, proportionate and necessary measure to protect the life of the applicant.

Thanks for the info! I was not aware he was in Ireland.
That was why I was confused about his post.
