Police always conceal carry?

I know, Part 2 is starting another OC thread ;)

Work christmas luncheon took us to a restaurant I would have never ever considered. So, because it was work related, and my employers position on firearms, I wasn't carrying.

Not the best neighborhoods in Detroit, but I've seen worse.

3 men came in to the restaurant, one wearing a gold badge around his neck, another had a polo shirt with a badge emblem on it. Unless one noticed the little cues, you wouldn't pick up them being police officers... they were essentially dressed in street clothes and yet each of them were OC.

Funny thing, none were shot while we were sitting there ;)

A lot of Departments have policy. If it is Open Carry the officer must have visible identification of Police showing. IE Badge on a Belt Clip, Badge Holder on a Chain, Jacket or Shirt with Police Department Logo etc. Personally when I was not in uniform and off duty, I always concealed carry when possible and still do today being retired. As a Detective I had the typical Belt Badge Carrier most of the time and wore a sport coat or jacket.
Nothing wrong with those who want to open carry but it is not for me.
IMO I do not want to advertise and possibly become the first target. IMO those who are predisposed to commit violence will always take out the highest threat first! Makes logical sense. We must understand those type people have no respect for anyone or life itself. And it probably isn't their first Rodeo with the law or anyone! One must also realize they do not think logically like we do. In fact they are flat ruthless and mean with no conscience ! Some are totally criminally insane! I have met them many times over my almost 30 years of LE.
