signed up for a Glock shooters competition Jan-March...

But I don't have a Glock

Going to the LGS tomorrow with the checkbook and either a 9mm 17, 19 or 34 on my mind

I had a 43 for a while... ''twas ok but I like my Shield .45 for carry and SD

Is it worth getting the MOS version? (Optics ready?) I've only tried an optic on a handgun once and didn't like it (was on my Ruger Mark III 22/45 Lite)

Can't wait to fondle a few and see what fits my hand...

The optics give you a single sight plane with nothing to line up but the dot and the target but they take a lot of practice. I dont use one enough and have to hunt for the dot. Then it seems like it is bouncing all over the place. Would work great on large targets in a hurry.

I just read about Glock knuckle and having to sand off the trigger guard to achieve comfortable shooting with a Glock...

Really?

I'm not sure I'm going to do that

I may rethink the whole idea of buying a Glock once I hold one

The grip angle decided it for me. It feels funny in my hand. I also rented a subcompact 40 caliber (don't know the Glock number). Fired 5 rounds from it and my strong hand and wrist were tingling clear up to the elbow. Like when you sting your hands hitting something with a baseball bat, but a lot worse. The base of the grip lands exactly on a pressure point. Went back to the rental counter and rented a Springfield XD subcompact 40 caliber. Had no such problem with it.

If there's any way you can do it, try renting a Glock of the size you want an shoot a box of ammo through it. That's the only way to know for sure.

$636 OTD including tax

I handled many, many gen 3, 4, and 5 models

So far.... I love it... Model 17L gen 3 (long slide) with 6.02" barrel, adjustable sights, slotted and relieved slide, extended slide release and improved trigger... Set up for target shooting

Can't wait to shoot and file a range report asap

And sorry the blatant ad for PrOlix on my cleaning mat... I'm a long time user of that product and also a distributor :)

Ok- here's the range report - my first Glock!

49 degrees and bright sunshine- no wind and had the range to myself.

Shot at 21' standing... Two handed, one handed, weak and strong hands

Used winchester white box 115 gr fmj and shot exactly 200 rounds with no failures of any kind.

Trigger is nice... 4.5lbs or so and pretty short reset.

I did not have to adjust the sights- it shot at point of aim (pumpkin on a post sight picture) when I did my part

Best part... No Glock knuckle... I must have hands made for Glock!

I like the sights (but wish my eyes were better)

I could shoot this gun all day... It's a keeper :)

If I wanted another plastic gun, the Glock Gen 4 would be on the short list. The Gen 4 seemed to 'solve' the Glock 'grip angle' for me.

The Glock has a lot going for it and some things against. Changing parts is a snap and readily available. They are quite reliable. Both of mine are model 22's, .40 S&W, with trijicon night sights. I like the 3-dot system, especially at night. We replaced the magazine releases with one from the .45acp model because it is longer and easier to use than the factory. After nearly 20 years, the night sights still glow.
MY personal downside is that the gun is so light, as the magazine empties, my glocks handle differently and recoil is more evident. Darn near idiot proof.

I had a Gen 3 G19 and G23. Neither of them fit my hand. I could shoot them but they were not comfortable. Tried the Gen 4 G19 and the fit was perfect without the add on pieces. So now I have a 19 and a 26. I needed the Pearce mag extension for the 26 but it shoots very well. Both have night sights. I have a Keltec Sub 2K that takes G17 mags and of course the happy sticks.

Awesome!! Is the gun considered a target model? I have 2 9's i would consider more a self defense gun. I love my 2 22 target pistols sw 22a1 and a ruger mk3 22/45 target, And my super blackhawk 44 mag 7.5 in barrel. Would be nice to have one in between.

Yes.. I would say it is consodered a target model. Has adjustable sights and 6" barrel. Probably not "target" like bullseye shooting... Maybe more like steel shooting competition

If it was my SD gun I wouldn't have put a trigger enhancment in it... Especially one that may cause light strikes (or so I've heard)

I usually run my SD guns stock.

Someday I may buy a Glock to carry... Who knows

Good point about using stock guns for defense . Massad Ayoob recommends that - because lawyers will try to use any modification in court as evidence that you ---Made the gun unsafe / are a gun nut and were itching to get into a fight etc.
