We have them here. They say there are not many of them, but I think there are more than most realize. I have always heard them referred to as painters around here, and thats what i call them. Most will tell you they are black, but i have never seen a black one. Only tawny ones.

I have only seen three. Twice at night while **** hunting. The other one was right here at the house a year or so ago.

The one at the house the girls spotted early one evening. They came inside and announced they had seen the biggest cat they had ever seen. I figured it was a Bob cat, but Janna said no, it was bigger and had a tail. A short time later my wife yelled for me to hurry outside, that it was in the kennel and killing Molly, my daughter's shepherd. It wasn't. The dog was cowering in its house, the cat was eating it's food. When i went outside it went over the fence and down through the woods. Gone.

We called the warden. He informed us there had been other sightings and it had likely came off the nearby state park or down off the blue ridge.

A month or so later I came home to find the girls locked in the car. They rolled down the window telling me to get my gun. Thinking someone was in the house with the wife I ran to the back door where my wife met me. She had just called for help because the cat was back, eating our chickens.

I went down to the coop and there was the cat, who took off to the bottom and was gone. That thing was fast!. Unfortunately 4 of my 6 birds were gone. I have not seen the cat since. The last two birds were gone within a month. I don't know what got them, but I guess the cat.

Hope I never see it again.
