I came across a photo in my old files today, the Calico 100 shot helical magazine. I haven't heard of one in years, and never actually saw one. What do y'all know ?
Had one. Pistol like the pic. Ran maybe 500 rds through it and sold it. Neat looking,
but the ergonomics were jut weird. Functioned fine. Crappy trigger, about 2/3 of the way
through a mag dump I would start to lose interest.

Sort of, technically they closed after Oregon decided to go
Anti-gun with a Hi-cap ban. Told 'em they should have gone
to Florida when they left California
At this point they're just selling parts.
Trigger ain't great, but it can be improved by disassembly & polishing
the mating surfaces, it's similar to a Star trigger in the way it's pinned.
Periodic cleaning works wonders. Most used ones have never been
cleaned, as most folks were too scared to pull 'em apart
Treat 'em like a trainer, it's long periods of trigger time with long
periods of reloading time, 'cause it takes awhile to reload the mags
Kind of annoyed me, they'd just come out with the .40S&W version,
then couldn't sell it due to Oregon's new hi-cap ban...and I was about
to lock onto a .40 Tactical Pistol...dangit!
What Oregon Hi-Cap ban?? There was the 1994-2004 ban, but that was national. Oregon
doesn't have any magazine bans (yet). Or at least no one told me-----
Imagine you have a large rowdy crowd of miscreants, protestors, whatever...
you fire a few quick shots and settle in to maintain a steady pace of fire
until the crowd is totally disbursed...usually after the first 30 shots they're
saying to themselves, "Skip this, that thing won't stop shooting!!"
Which is kinda what happens at the range, you're still popping away when everyone else is done...they all start wondering what the heck just keeps
firing...and firing...and firing...lol
The ‘94 ban nearly put Calico out of business but they resurged with the sunset. The last time I spoke with a Calico employee, they were in full swing and even selling directly to the public (at MSRP.)
I bought a 9mm carbine four or five years ago. Probably a great gun for security or law enforcement. I just didn’t like the wind-up magazine.
Good to hear they are back. I generally avoid semi-auto, just personal choice, but that would look so COOL as the companion carbine to my 10/22.
