I bought a 10/22 take today, it comes with a handy little bag. The only problem is that allot of the scopes are too big for the sleeve inside the bag and i cant close it all the way without removing the scope. I do not want a red dot, i would like to have a compact scope that can reach to at least 150 yards. i don't know how gun scopes work, or if your suppose to buy a scope designed for a specific caliber what compact scope goes good with the ruger 1022 takedown and work with the bag? Please help does anyone have one with a scope? If so please tell me the name of the scope and post a pik thanks! :)

I've got a Nikon Prostaff 4x40 scope on my 10/22 TD but as you said it is too large to fit in the case. I've got it mounted with quick detach rings so it pops on and off easily, though.

If you don't want to go that route, I know UTG makes a small 3-9x32 scope called the "Bug Buster" that a lot of 10/22 TD owners use. It's small enough to fit in the case.

Had this problem also. Solved it by modding the gun to butler creek folding stock. Fits in the bag great now and so much better looking. Trigger ,auto bolt release and John mason handguard round out my build.

Still thinking about shorten barrel to 16.5 and threading. Trying to find a way to keep front sight when I do. I want a but wider cheek rest eventually. Always something to do....

PS 3x9_40 on Leopold low twist in rings fits fine now and goes back into bag.

I don't have a break down 10/22 but have similar problems with some of my carry bags.
to see what fits, take a toilet tissue tube and see how it fits with the rifle in the bag.
then also try a paper towel tube as they are close to a full size scope.
this will give you an idea of how large or small your scope can be and still fit in the bag.
remember to account for the rings and mounts, but do consider a quick release style as this will give you great flexibility.

There are some people on rimfire central that can cut thread and move the front sight.
Thanks for the info. I,ll search them.

My wife just gave me a 10/22td for our anniversary. The scope I just ordered was a nikon p223 3x32. I have a bushnell banner 1.75-4 but at 10.5 inches long it still wasn't short enuf for clearing everything mounting with proper eye relief and fitting in the bag. The nikon is 8.1 and really is the best way to go.

I saw the nikon p223 but i didn't buy it because it said it is was specifically designed for 223 but said you can use the spot on technology on their website and adjust it for 22 im not sure how to use scopes or if scopes are diffrent for diffrent calibers so i just bought a vortex diamondback. 1-5x33mm and it fits in the bag Okay i just need to fit a bipod, a 22 pistol with ammo and its complete! :D

Nikon's P-223 3X Carbine scope is a great option but a scope with a bit more magnification and still has a low profile would be Nikon's PROSTAFF 2-7x32 Nikoplex scope ( 1/4 inch clicks at 100 yards and parallax set at 100 yards) or Nikon's P-Rimfire 2-7x32 Matte BDC 150 (1/4 inch clicks at 50 yards and a 50 yard parallax). Eith scope will work great on the Takedown model. Dialing in the BDC with your 22lr ammo is easy to do too.

Nikon's Spot On Program lets you use any Nikon scope with any cal. you choose. for example I use a P-223 3X carbine scope on a .300 BO rifle. Works great for shooting suppressed sub-sonic rounds in low light conditions. Feel free to contact me with any Nikon question's. Check out this sites Sponsor's to see if they can help you with your purchase. The P-Rimfire 2-7x32 Matte BDC 150 is currently on sale for under $140 too.

Old post but, FWIW, my TD is set up with the following scope and mount which allows the scope to remain on the rifle when placed in storage bag.

UTG 3-9X32 1" BugBuster Scope, AO, RGB Mil-dot, QD Rings
UTG Tactical Low Profile Rail Mount for Ruger 10/22 Rifle

I had the same problem. Whats worse, when slid into the sleeve, if there is constant pressure and jostling (kept it in my trunk), things would work loose.

The final straw was when I pulled it out of the trunk to start plinking, and found it had lost zero.

My solution was to sell the rifle.

Walmart $22.97 random Chinese scope works fine. anything better is like gold plating a potato with my antique eyes.

take a razor and slash out the stitching that separates one side of the bag into 2 compartments. cheapest and best mod for the TD.

strap on cheek pad makes the scope usable but looks terrible

The takedown doesn’t lend itself to a scope, because while it realigns kind of, to the receiver, there will always be a bit of misalignment. The factory iron sites are on the barrel, so they stay aligned, when you mount and dismount the barrel. So, using them the misalignment doesn’t matter. It will matter with every receiver mounted scope. But depending on what level of accuracy you’re after, the bit of misalignment might not be an issue to you.

The Volquartsen barrel, with their cantilever scope mount might be a solution. But I haven’t checked to see if it will work. Volquartsen makes quite a few 10/22 accessories. So, maybe they would produce something that will work, if they get enough requests.

Edited to add: Ok, I just checked, and Volquartsen has a lightweight forend assembly for the takedown. It consists of a forend, their light weight bull barrel, and the cantilever scope mount. Retail is $350.

This is one of the first 10/22 takedowns that we had in the shop. It was pre release demo that we got when the takedown first came out. I bought it off demo on the release date, and this is possibly the first modded takedown, its the lowest serial number i've ever seen.

The scope question has been around for some time now. This is how I solved it back then. Lots of replacement stocks are now available to make a scoped takedown fit in the bag. I used a Butler Creek folder and cut it to work with the mechanism. That was before the aftermarket started for the takedowns. You don't need to go to all the trouble of modding one like I did...

For some reason the images aren’t showing, but a link to the gallery is. When I click the link, I get a no permission error message.

OK got the image problem taken care of. Also notice that the receiver is cross pinned into this stock at the rear. That stainless pin goes all the way through the stock, receiver and trigger group, replaces the rear pin. This is a mod that I recommend if your going to do what I did. It really stiffens up the receiver into the rear portion of the stock. Otherwise the receiver has a problem with flexing...

I used a Leopold twist ring mount for the 10/22 with a "Sweet 22" scope that I bought from Cabelas. Its a 3x9X40 with calibrated drop knobs for the rimfire calibers.
