I've been reading that Detroit Police Department will be cutting down due to budget cut and police stations will be closing in the afternoon (4pm ) and that you have to go online to contact them this online system will be running for up to 16hrs a day ,, Who thought that this was a good idea

I’m half expecting voice mail to be used on the 911 system:

“Please pay attention to all the choices before making your selection.

If this concerns a potential or actual homicide, press 1.”
If this concerns a home fire, press 2.
If this concerns a business fire, press 3.
If this concerns a health emergency, press 4
If this concerns a suicide, press 5.
If this concerns a robbery, press 6.
    If this concerns” . . . . etc.

    Previous menu choices may include:
“If you voted for this administration, continue.
    If you did not,
Thank You for using the 911 emergency system. Good Bye.”

    ;)

Detroit unveils virtual police station | News - Home

Interesting idea; it seems from the little article i saw that they are trying to keep more of their people on the streets rather than in the station.

I'm glad i don't live in Detroit. It is my understanding that Detroit has lost a lot of its population due to its poor economy, to the extent that some neighborhoods are almost abandoned. I remember one story about Detroit or a city in its metro-area having to remove street lights due to its debt. Highland Park Michigan Removes 1,000 Streetlights Due to $4 Million Electric Bill | Video | TheBlaze.com If they can't even keep the lights on, i guess we shouldn't be surprised they are shorthanded at the police station.

All they are doing is shutting down the desk services during non business hours. Very few departments maintain 24 hour desk services.

... As opposed to thread where everyone is worried that a privatized police force would cut money to save a buck... Rolleyes

I don't know what else they are supposed to do.

It seems Detroit is out of options and should probably be abandoned by the holdouts.

I bet Detroit would make a LOVELY preserve for all the bears; it doesn't seem like a Yellowstone-esque onslaught of tourists would be as much of a problem. They wouldn't have to worry about homeless people causing fires in the abandoned buildings, as the bears would keep them at bay.

Clear it out, fence it off, and dump all the bears there, perfect. After that it would make an excellent retirement home for congresscritters.

From what I've seen nature is reclaiming it so it might end up with a significant bear population.

Its ironic really. My understanding is that they are struggling to find new officers inside of Detroit.

They had a similar problem in Libya recently. Look how that ended.
